One thing I absolutely detest about the zune is that it has no voice quality controls, aka bass, treble, graphic equalizer... Also with the flash versions, they are shipped with a very cheap pair of headphones similar to the ones that the airlines give out for free. Why? to save a dollar in manufacturing costs? Properly represented in literature and packaging? Hardly! Once again the world capitalists at microsoft have managed to stick it to their customers. But unlike Windows, there are other alternatives that are fully interoperable with the intended application, music.

ive had a zune 80 for almost a year now, the squicle's messed up BIG time and i cracked the screen twice, and its all banged/scratched up, i still have the warranty, but just like the iPod's warranty- it's viod if the screen is cracked or if theres any scratches on it; but i cant blame the companies for my mistakes, i still love my 80 Gig... but sometimes, it feels good to grasp an iPod in my hand.... fanboys suck.

I had an IPod that broke on me within a year that I had to pay to get replaced, and I treated that thing like a child, droped it once and it wasn't a far drop, but yet some how the headphone jack went out. Anyway I have had my Zune for like a year and a half and have treated it worse than my IPod and it's still in great shape. I have accidentally put it on my lap and then gotten up to get off the train and forgotten about it until the music stops and the headphones are ripped out of my ears from it falling.

I tell you, I have a zune 30 that was a refurb from woot as well -- I think I got it about a year ago, and I really have no complaints about the quality. I've dropped it MANY times WHILE IT WAS RUNNING, and have never had a problem with it. Battery is still working as well as when I got it (which wasn't ever too great, but I guess zune 80/120's battery life has been improved dramatically.) The software is a treat compared to itunes, although i still have a few minor complaints about the functionality. But it keeps getting better. Unless something else comes out which is considerably different and better, my next mp3 player will be another Zune. They are really doing a good job. (Oh and since I first bought my zune, they have been making continual improvements on the player via firmware, and it's like a whole different device than when I first bought it -- free upgrades are a big + in the MS camp!)

I LOVE my ZUNE!

I have a first gen 30GB brown zune (the new black). And I have never had any issues with it. I got the Zune the Xmas that it came out (what 2 years ago). Battery, HD, everything is going strong (and mine get abused all the time).

One thing everyone has to love about the Zune...every update is like getting a brand new one. Just cause I have the 1st gen, doesn't mean I get to sit in the corner when new features come out. I love this thing!

I had a first gen Zune (refurb from Woot) for about 7 months or so before it messed up. It wasn't the power supply, it was a hard drive error that I needed to reformat but it wouldn't let me. Luckily it was still under warranty and Microsoft sent me a new one within a week or two. Same first gen, same color, same size...except it's not a refurb :D Or at least, it doesn't have the refurb sticker on the back, so I don't know. Either way, it's been another 5 months since I've gotten it and it's been fine.

I have no experience with the Zune 2 though but haven't read anything bad.

As for a reply to the article itself, yay! I like updating things. The last update to 3.0 messed up the slide bar for songs on occasion only being fixed after a reboot. Hopefully this new update fixes that

So my iPod has broken down again and I'm probably not going to buy another one. It seems like these things last for 12 months before the power supply croaks. Is the Zune's hardware more reliable?
