iMobileCinema: Flash video on the iPhone… with a catch

When I first saw this I thought “Where have you been all my life?” Then I realized the answer: In 1.x iPhone and iTouch firmware. iMobileCinema is a homebrew app for 1.1.1-1.1.5 firmware and must be installed on jailbroken phones. This tool is all but useless to early adopters who are already into the 2.x version of the firmware but a version that should work with 2.1 is coming soon, according to the website.

The question, then, is whether this app breaks the terms of use.

The program is actually a Safari plug-in that breaks Flash video out of the page much like the YouTube program. It’s not a true Flash interpreter but instead uses the same techniques that the YouTube app uses but on a wider range of videos. It’s available free for download for those who have considerably older phones, at least in tech years.

  • I’m working with this app right now, its amazing, not as good as another one i have though, i have one which works with downloaded youtube videos

  • If you really want an answear you should check my last post I think

  • The reason Flash Player violates the TOS is because it is considered an interpreted language (swf files being programmed in ActionScript). All this app does is pull flv info out of swfs.

  • I want this so I can use Woopid – http://www.woopid.com on the iPhone. Either that or hope they make an iPhone app.

  • Hope the version for 2.0 comes out soon. The fact that apple hasn’t already included flash in this phone yet sucks.

  • Too late for me , i’m switching to blackberry bold, they have this issue for years now and i don’t think they planning to do anything about it.

The “Very Shortly” was posted in Feb of 2008, its now Feb of 2009, Where’s the Beef?
Were leaning to the new Storm Blackberry. Supports everything we need. Were a media company, We have over 60 iphones and were tired of not being able to see our own clients web needs on the spot. Last year we picked up the iphones not thinking this would be become a long time problem. It’s 2009 and we can’t wait any longer. We would love to come back some day but it seems hopeless with the EGO of Steve.

The Storm has better resolution and better sound. What I really care about is the flash and video. Future is now. I will miss my apps but this is business. Were a MAC based operation, and didn’t really want to make these changes but again we cannot wait another penny. My employees are constantly having to pull over to the local coffee house and whip out a latte and the laptop just to help a client. TIME AND MONEY. Plus it really ticks me when were trying to move forward in thinking yet it feels like were moving back in time with capability. Clients want it now, and thats my bottom line. Now is what my clients get.

Apples new motto should be “Lose the EGO Steve”. Wake up Steve its 2009.

  • I don’t think Michael realizes that RIM (blackberry storm) doesn’t support flash either.

It’s because a mobile flash browser doesn’t even exist yet.

The technology isn’t there. But SUN and ADOBE are in a heated race to create the technology. Until then we can’t really can’t complain until these two company’s make the software available.

    DON’T BLAME APPLE

YOU MIGHT AS WELL BLAME RIM AND GOOGLE TOO!
