I got an e-mail sent to my old Hotmail account from Microsoft late last night announcing “I’m a PC” merchandise along with a request to “Show your PC pride” by buying any number of hats, buttons, ties, shirts, shoes, mousepads, skateboards, bags, and mugs with the words “I’m a PC” emblazoned somewhere on each item.
Not that I don’t think $18.95 plus $4.99 for shipping isn’t a GREAT price for a T-shirt that says “I’m a PC,” in an aqua-blue font from 1986, I’d just rather use a PC quietly and unassumingly because it suits my personal needs better than a Mac is currently capable of doing. As the sole Windows-only guy at CrunchGear, I apologize on behalf of Microsoft and urge you to use whichever system works best for you. That is all.

I see the attempt to generate more “I’m a PC buzz” but you would think for that price you could get a better T-Shirt. But I’m sure hardcore PC people in this war might jump on board.
Doug may i ask why you’re still a windows guy? and I’m glad to hear that there is still a pc guy over at crunchgear, I’ll be paying more attention to yor post from now on. To be honest i get a little tired of reading those MS hating posts sometimes. I think we all come here to read whats new and interesting about the tech world not personal rants and opinions bashing everything not made by apple.
Yes, Leo, you may. There are a few reasons — and these are not meant to start any trouble with Mac users, they’re just personal preference. I’ve owned Macs in the past and my wife has a Mac that I use sometimes but I’ve always been a Windows guy for the following reasons:
1. More hardware options at relatively lower prices.
2. A piece of blogging software called Windows Live Writer, which I can honestly say is the best thing Microsoft has ever developed (in my opinion). This could very well be the #1 reason I don’t use a Mac. I use it all day for work and I haven’t been able to find anything like it for Mac.
3. Sony Vegas for video editing. I’ve used it for a long time and I’m comfortable with it. I have to create enough movies for work that I don’t want to get into learning something else when Vegas does everything I need it to do just fine. Some of the guys complain about using iMovie, too, which is probably what I’d use if I had a Mac. I wouldn’t need/want to shell out for more robust software because I basically make short videos for the web.
Other than that, I used to say because of games, but I don’t play games on the computer all that much any more so that’s not really a good argument.
I guess one of the main reasons is that I grew up using Windows in school and at work. I grew up during Apple’s darker years, right before the company kind of exploded in popularity again.
I went to high school between 1994 and 1997 and college until 2001 and everything was mostly Windows. Not too many people had Macs and they weren’t really supported all that much. I think there was one Mac lab on campus and four or five PC labs.
It’s really different now. If I’d been born ten years later — or even five years later — I might have been a Mac guy. Who knows? I think they have some cool stuff and I love the iPod Touch but as far as computers go, I’d have to personally give up too much to switch permanently.
