I cannot understand why BB did this. But Apple had their own issues with iPhone during initial sales.

iPhone even with it’s extensive feature list is missing a few key elements, some of which the BlackBerry Storm may do better than the iPhone thereby making it a safer bet than the iPhone... Yep, I meant safer. I have my reasons… and here’s why http://smartphone-guru.blogspot.com/2008/11/blackberry-storm-safer-bet-than-iphone.html

I can’t wait to get myself the Storm…

I think that RIM has serious problems & glitches with their operating system, various versions. My advice is to never buy a BlackBerry until it has been available for a long period of time and you've done your research online to make sure there aren't bad reviews. Because if a glitch is discovered, there's no reason to think it will be fixed.

I bought the Curve 8330 right after it came out, primarily for the fact that it has GPS (in order to develop GPS software, a hobby of mine). Turns out that due to a software glitch, the GPS function in the CDMA version of the curve is either non-functional or rarely functional. RIM and the phone companies have been promising a "patch" for it since April 2008, every month, but it has still not come out.

To make matters worse, customers have been begging RIM for some help on various threads on the official BlackBerry message boards, but RIM is pretending these customers don't exist:

No wonder the iPhone is so popular. It works.

Interesting thing about the "downgrade": Verizon Stores were sent launch kits listing operating system 4.7.0.61 and telling all that there needs to be an OTA update. I'm sure they were all expecting this to be the much anticipated "71" series or as BGR says the "82". Instead, it rolls out 4.7.0.65. If you are one of the lucky ones who has this phone, you know there is still work to be done but this will do for the die hard fans and eventually we will see the Storm we all know this can be.
