BlackBerry Storm torn apart and mysteries revealed
by Matt Burns on November 24, 2008

All the rage behind the BlackBerry Storm seems to be the clickable screen. It isn’t the OS, email capabilities, or media player but the clickable screen so the obligatory teardown focuses on that mystery. Unfortunately, it doesn’t seem that RIM developed any screen clicking magic rather installing a a single button underneath the screen’s backplate. The disassembly also found the source of the sluggish OS is the slowish Qualcomm MSM7600 CPU. So there you have it on this Monday morning, kiddies; some circuit board pr0n.

  • So how does the screen actually click. I haven’t gotten my hands on one so I’m a little confused understandably.

  • How does it compare to the LG Dare, which also has a clickable screen? The look almost identical!

  • The LG Dare has a vibrate function which allows the user to know when an application has been selected whereas the storm is a button mounted behind the screen. the touch function on the storm allows you to scroll over an application however it is not seleted until the screen is depressed
