No, a good name would be Zune Surface M. Cross-branding! Of course it would have to best Apple's mobile market beast, but honestly, with backing of XBOX and The Social pegging the tweener market shouldn't be a daunting task.

The Social could gobble up facebook or have interoperability.

You can't make it a Sidekick. The design language is old and tired. And while copying the iPhone may seem to be the easy way out, they could just use Motorola's Atila platform perhaps with a Tegra chipset (please).

Microsoft does partnerships very well. This could be the phone to experience, and like Android-farm it out to the masses of manufactures. I do however believe, that there would have to be very strict design rules. A list of must haves. I don't want to see another cobbled beast like windows mobile. It is happered too much by being a jack knife. Limit the hardware design to strengthen the OS.

I'd buy one.

And dang, that was all over the map.

possible names:

Sidekick Zune
Sidekick Z
Sidekick Z1

(sense a trend? Make it a sidekick!!!)

Sidekick LX/08's media player is decent but pretty basic.

a happy marriage of the 2 with a better Web Browser (more JavaScript; allow YouTube) and touch screen (and 16 GB?) would be awesome!!

It would only be a good thing if it was running on a different OS. So, unless that happens--no, a Zune phone would not be a good thing.

If the Zune were combined with a phone it would be an iPhone killer for sure. And Windows mobile sucks for sure. My buddy has it on his sprint phone and the GUI is so blah!!

Ironic code name, since that was the name of the operating system that was being built by Apple/IBM/Motorola (AIM) in the early 90s, by two IBM-created companies Taligent and Kaleida, to be a whole new OS to compete with Windows, Solaris, UNIX, etc./2.

It was going to have a cross-platform scripting language, selectable interfaces - Mac or OS/2 or others - and would have become the multitasking champ of OSs back in the 90s. But they couldn't pull it together.

But it makes one wonder, does MS ever have a single original idea any more? Seems the name Vista was the last original idea they had.

I want one.

I love my Zune, but I don't carry it with me everywhere. I'd love it even more if it was also my phone. I'm all about convergence. The less devices I have to carry, the better. As far as I'm concerned, my Blackberry has a big bulls-eye on the front of it.

They need to make a CDMA version, though, and get to the half of America that Apple is completely ignoring.
