Joost iPhone App makes us remember Joost again

Joost launched their iPhone application on the App Store this evening, giving users access to 46,000 Joost videos, including major television shows and films. The iPhone has a built in YouTube application already, giving them a serious head start when it comes to video on the iPhone. But archrival Hulu doesn’t yet – giving Joost a little room to maneuver for now.

I’m sure it’s a temporary issue, but the application just doesn’t work yet. I tried to play multiple videos, including the full length version of Men In Black, but an error message reads “The connection to the server was lost. This may be because of poor network quality. Please try again later.” Meanwhile, YouTube videos are playing promptly.

Still, when the app settles down and works properly, it will be a nice addition to the iPhone. Lots of great shows to watch while wiling away the hours on a plane. At least until the battery runs out.

  • “Lots of great shows to watch while wiling away the hours on a plane.”

How will this work, exactly, given that most commercial aircraft don’t have inflight Internet?

  • It runs like complete shit. I tried watching Ghostbusters to only have it stutter some audio, never show a picture and ultimately crash. Also, my search for “Men in Black” yielded absolutely no results. Definitely not recommended. Here’s to Hulu thinking something up soon that will rock.

  • Having tried it out yet but very excited about it. The first impressions aren’t very promising though.

  • Just wondering if its just me ; haven’t been able to make it work . Is it not working in India or something ?. I get the same error everytime and youtube works flawlessly. :(

  • Great idea! Extremely bad follow through!

Learn from the gaming software industry. You get one chance and after you drop the ball, people don’t take you seriously. Before you release something, make sure it isn’t garbage. Competition forces improvement or loss of market share, the winner: the consumer.

    Please fix this!
