From the Courier Mail:
Among their arsenal of weapons are bags of almonds and BlackBerry mobile phones β almonds to keep their energy up, and the mobile internet connections to stay one step ahead of police and the military.
These fuckers turned our tools against us and it’s an embarrassment - and a reminder - that the tools that make our lives easier and, dare I say it, better, can also be used to sow doom and destruction.
The story says that the commandos were “trained” in their mission, learning how to shoot AK-47s with some accuracy but knowing the MO of the average US school shooter - buy gun, shoot at hillside, write screeds, kill - these boys could have been just kids with a death wish and an understanding of the Internet. Either way, this is horrible and it makes me want to stop propagating news about methods of communication. But then again the Dark Ages weren’t so hot either.
I hope you and your family are safe this holiday.

All of those guys dropping grenades and pulling the triggers - Chicken Shit Cowards.
I wonder how difficult their training was; “OK guys, this is going to be pretty easy. You’re going to have guns and grenades. Your targets are pretty much going to be eating dinner and otherwise going about their lives not expecting anything like this. Oh, don’t forget your Blackberries and almonds. Remember, eat the Blackberries and communicate on the almonds…no, wait…that can’t be right. Eat the almonds and communicate on the Blackberries.”
*uckin’ *ussies.
“I hope you and your family are safe this holiday.”
Thanks. And I wish the same for everyone at CG.
Yeah, I meant Blackberrys.
Terrorists using our tools against us? Who could have forseen. I mean, it’s almost like they use their opposable thumbs against us too. CURSE YOU EVOLUTION. Makes me want to never evolve again..
Geebus, dude. This has been going on since the beginning of time.
Yeah, but it still sucks.
I agree that it sucks, but life - evolution, really - is all about dealing with teh suck. The knee jerk reaction to eliminate the tools because they can be used against us is pretty much the reason why democracy and freedom n’ such are non-trivial events that are very hard to sustain.
It’s refreshing to see a common sense post on this blog. I half expected Nicholas to post something snarky about this incident injected with anti-American, anti-conservative, and/or anti-military idiocy.
Seriously, Nicholas is such an unhappy pessimistic terrible blogger. Crunchgear would be so amazing without his awful anti-everything posts.
This is a 9/11 of India.I can’t explain how shocked i was when all the news channels were covering the operation live here.Terrorists came here to kill atleast 5000 of us but salute to those NSGs (National Security Guard),police officers & Black cat commandos who have died to protect us.According to the officials, there are 189 death while more than 600 injured. There are 6 Americans & people from Japan,China,Mauritious & from many other countries who have lost their lives. We are really soory & our condolences to their familys who came here in our country but will never be able to come back.We are thankful to our army officials,NSG guards & policemen for their bravery because they got bullets & bombs in their chests protecting us.The death toll could be much higher but these people stopped those bastards by giving their lives.
Come on, John, give us something better. You’re at the helm of a 7 million + monthly page turn Website and this is the best you can do?
I fully agree with your sentiments here, but use your power to spread some useful ideas, at the least. This “me so sad I wanna take my gadgets and go home” shit doesn’t help anybody. It just sounds whiny and spreads negativity.
I mean, write this post and keep it to yourself or email it to some friends, for sure, to get it out of your system. But then craft something professional and inspiring for THE MILLIONS OF PEOPLE WHO READ YOU. Help us do something about it, and not just call people fuckers and bemoan the dark side of technology.
You’re better than that. If you’re not up to it, pass the torch to someone who is. But you are up to it. You’re Biggsy. Act like it.
Scary to think I was at that hotel less than 3 months ago. Eeery.
My friends were dining nearby and they just ran !.
Twitter as a crowd organizer for evil is scarier than a mobile phone.
Many reading this has seen twitter lead to party attendees ejections a la 4th grade playground and for lame gossiping and back stabbing.
organizing a low budget massive scale _efficient_ operation is enabled by twitter more than any technology on the internet. i dont know what that means for twitter vis a vis the government, considering the troop tube b.s.
hope everyone is safe with their loved ones close.
Great nutjob, knee jerk, assume all rumors are true article. OMG, the Indian government wants everyone to stop tweeting!!! Except that wasn’t true either.
The “oh my god, see, the government — all governments — should wiretap everything, just in case!” folks don’t need any help promoting their stupid position.
I could not agree more, what happened when us American’s took pride in freedom. It used to be something we fought for and we were proud to maintain. That awful argument that it is OK for the government to wiretap your phones because “what are you talking about that is so important/secret”.
