This is nice but… having the ugly camera box does more than the camera itself. The secret is that people will act differently (???better???) when they know they are on a security camera vs. believing that they are not on camera. Many (MANY!) companies place a hollow camera shells or the empty darkened bubbles throughout their site knowing that they will have the same affect (or is it effect) as a full surveillance system with camera, monitors, recorders, etc…

BTW: this reminded me of the Weeds episode(s) with the nanny cam in the teddy bear…

I calculated that 80% of my day is spent in the view of the CCTV. When I am at work or school there is always a camera around me and for the two hours I’m awake at home there isn’t.

A CCTV gives the feeling of relief not the feeling of creepy to the owners. Besides, it is all the better if CCTV can give creepy feeling to those people of bad intention.

There are already various and moderate CCTV design, some of which are nice-looking. This article is a rave to Japanese product.

If the Japanese are putting in CCTV at ryokans (not exactly crime hotspots) there’s no hope for the rest of us.
