Nothing, basically. My brother recently received the above e-mail from T-Mobile saying he’d be receiving a special gift in the mail for being a longtime customer. What he received for being with T-Mo for over 10 years was pretty underwhelming.
Seriously? That’s what you send for being a longtime customer? Why bother e-mailing a patron saying they’re going to get a special gift? The pink bag tags were kind of cool. If you’re into that sort of thing.

Take it…bank it and grab a flight later on the credit.
Wait, you’re complaining because a company sent you an unsolicited airline ticket? And you didn’t have to do ANYTHING to get it?
I wish I was a blogger so I could be ballin 24/7…
No, my brother would have to buy a ticket and then he’d get a free companion ticket. So, really, this gift is nothing unless he or anyone else who got it needs to get a ticket before the 24th.
I’m with Jason – A free flight is a free flight and is certainly nothing to complain about. If he doesn’t want a free flight, it isn’t like he’s lost anything; making it sound like T-Mobile has done something wrong/bad here is somewhat rude.
“I wish I was a blogger so I could be ballin 24/7…”
Holllaaaaaa.
Ha! I’ve been with Pac Bell Mobile -> Cingular -> ATT Wireless for almost 10 years now. Every now and then, they send me special offers for valued long term customers… A free phone.
But not just any free phone. It’s a bottom of the line, basic, no frills, last year’s model, free phone!
Offer valid with a 2-year contract renewal, and $20 equipment upgrade fee, of course.
Lame.
This is a lame “gift” because they pumped you up with a preceeding email.
And with only about 3 weeks to book a flight, where 99% chance most of us 10 year + customers are not flying anyway, our holiday plans are usually set!
This is a promotional thing for Airlines only, and I get the same offers all the time from them directly, I do not need T-mobile to “offer” it. A gift is a gift. At christmas you are not required to buy a gift to get a gift under the tree.
So why should have to buy a ticket to get a “free” gift ticket?
Its not a gift then. Their email said:
“Get ready. Your holiday gift for being in the top 5% of longtime T-Mobile® customers is on its way. It will help you stay closer to those who matter most. And there are no phones to buy or contracts to renew. So fasten your seatbelt. Then check your mailbox over the next week or so, because you’re going places.”
Guess the clue of “going places” and seatbelt were in the email, but saying how you did not have to buy a phone or contract was misleading one to believe it was regarding phone stuff, not completely unrelated partnering promotional deal T-mobile did with airlines, and knew the odds are most have no time to redeem such a “gift”.
BTW, they offered this same promotion to anyone signing up to MyFaves.. so yeah some “special deal’ for long timers…

I just got that email a few minutes ago and saw that it was offered to long time customers and anyone renewing their contract. I got the feeling that it wasn’t a ridiculously special deal for the top 5% when they add the line “While most customers have to renew their contract to qualify, you’re already there.” I mean if I am part of the top 5%, I would have to be with them for around 10 years. I think I proved I am not going anywhere and they know that!
I will say I have received a lot of perks from them but not in the form of airline tickets, clocks, or the perks you are probably thinking. If you follow their promotions you can get one of the cheapest plans available! Before I got a BlackBerry I was paying $35.99 for 1,000 anytime minutes, and free nights and weekends, plus an additional $5.99 for 1,000 text messages a month. I still have that plan but I added on another $17.99 for BlackBerry charges/Unlimited data. They also had a deal where you could get unlimited data for $5.99 a month but it was only for non-BlackBerry phones. So if you are a long time customer you can keep these promotions going and enjoy the perks of a very low phone bill!
