We’ve been getting some spam emails from someone purporting to be Diego Norte offering us exciting notes to post on our blog. These notes include tips on how to cheat on your taxes and how to lure children into vans (I didn’t read the entire thing, so I can’t confirm that that’s in there.) I’m sure you, as an Internet Professional, have brushed up against this character.
Luckily, we know a bit more about him today. His real name is James Brausch and he’s essentially a scammer, creating fake sites left and right. Some notes from Complaints Board:
“Diego Norte” is a fake name. The picture on the web site is not him, it is also fake. The person is actually:
James D. Brausch
REDACTEDHis personal web site is: jamesbrausch.com and he has a family web site at brausch.com.
He also operates weightlossdude.com if you want to see what he looks like.
Basically he tries to get people to post spam for him where it does not belong. Don’t fall for it. And if you have or know someone who has, be sure to post it on all the “rip off” web sites and BBB.

Why am I posting this? Because we’ve seen an increase in fake “grassroots” news sent to our tips box and this is one of the most egregious offenders. Although HTC apologized for their slip-up, PR folks are discovering that by emailing “Hey! I saw this hawt link on the MySpace www.mycrappycompany.com” they can convince someone out there to give them some bits. There’s enough noise out there without guys like this making our inboxes a toilet.
UPDATE – There’s a lot of he said/she said going on in comments. I’ll leave them open for now but I’m basically trying to say that Diego Norte – who is believed to be this Brausch guy – needs to stop spamming.

Brausch doesn’t scam anyone. The guy made me thousands of dollars and sent me thousands of dollars worth of free gifts. He doesn’t live in Utah. And no, you can’t find his address through whois. Brausch started Diego Norte but I’m not sure he has any involvement anymore. He retired.

So, you just happened to be drifting about, searching for James Brausch on the internet (because HE is your hero?), and you ran across this post, then decided to put in your 2 cents? What an amazing “coincidence.”
Well, that was one odd, fishy comment. Brausch is known to send people to forums to comment for him. Maybe he will send you some more of those “free gifts” for posting here.
Then again, here’s another possibility…maybe the real Stephen Dean will run across “your” comment above, realize HE didn’t write it, and let everyone know who probably did.

By the way, the address for James Brausch that had been posted above is just a mail drop, and he himself has listed it publicly before. Apparently, his house is in a rural area and according to one of his blog posts he goes into town to get his mail.
Seems he’s now mostly living out of a suitcase in central America with his wife and kids a lot of the time these days. But, he’s still a U.S. citizen, still has to respect U.S. laws, has family ties here, and eventually has to pay the piper like everyone else. If you read this James (and with an ego like that you know he will), remember the old saying about how you treated people on the way “up” because you WILL see them again on the way down.
It’s good to see some people finally calling attention to his activities. One thing’s for sure: he won’t go away. He’ll just try to be more crafty.
Maybe you should switch the photo above to the “before” one from his Weight Loss Dude site.
He’s sent me free gifts on numerous occasions. Dozens of books, dozens of dvds. Most valuable, many free copies of his popular software that has made me thousands.
He also promoted some of my products, making me thousands of dollars.
What would you know about it? The “real Stephen Dean.” Didn’t know I was well known enough to have any impostors.
I have a Google Alert on his name from back when he used to be more active. That’s how I found the post.
Stephen, are you completely oblivious to how this man operates? Are you blind to the many complaints on the internet about him? How about comments from former customers/partners who have nothing good to say about him now?
Do you condone massive spamming? How about posting ads on sites like “Craigs List” for “jobs” when Craigs List specifically forbids “work at home” type postings, which is what those really are? And then having those people who respond and don’t know better send spam to blogs like this one? That’s just wrong. Do you think all that is somehow ok?
Knowing this, and seeing the complains above, you actually came here to blindly stand up for this character? It seems at this point you may have more reputation to lose than him.

He works under a very strict, literal and analytical system. And many people can’t handle it.
Last I knew the internship was an unpaid position. You get paid based on objective results. If you don’t perform well you don’t get paid well.
Complaints from people who don’t meet his standards don’t bother me. And if people call him a scammer because they didn’t get the job done… that’s their problem.
As far as the Craigslist and blog spamming. My blog was on his list of blogs to “spam.” And my guess is the people who “spam” aren’t following directions.
I’m sure James has read the terms and conditions for Craigslist and made sure his instructions literally don’t violate the policy. That’s how James does things.
You are quite wrong Stephen Dean. I have seen the so-called “training video” in James Brausch’s own voice. He instructs people to post employment listing ads on Craig’s list which ARE a violation of their terms. They do not permit such false ads. He knows this. That is why he has other individuals do this, instead of himself. Otherwise, Craig’s list would block him easily. He is using individuals in a similar way to smugglers who use “mules” to get across borders. Their job is to to protect their master while doing his bidding. It is really no different here.
In addition, blogs such as this one (and others) have asked that he stop spamming them. He does not. It does not matter if his deluded “interns” do not follow his so-called “directions.” The fact is he is sending people to blogs like this one when they are NOT WANTED, period. He persists in doing it despite the fact these blogs do not want him or his spammers.
Also he shares the emails of those “job applicants” by selling them to others, when they were simply responding to a specific false job posting. Then, these people are spammed further. I believe this may be a blatant infraction of the United States CANN spam act. If it is, and James Brausch is taken to task by state District Attorney Generals, the cost to him could be monumental. It would not matter where he is residing because you cannot hide from the authorities. Hopefully, we will be reading about this in the news soon.

James Brausch’s latest tactic involves hustling a monthly subscription-based automated recruitment system to online businesses. Basically, his automated web script recruits people from various forums and sites such as Craig’s list and instructs them to solicit (ie, spam) those same types of sites to get even more “recruits.” In other words, it creates an ever-growing army of spammers. All people who thought they were actually applying for a “job.” Just do a search and see what people thought of the “job” after they did what they were told. Not at all happy. Take a look at diegonorte.com and you’ll see he’s selling all their email and home addresses. Nice.
Apparently, this has given him sufficient income to live in places like Costa Rica for a good part of the year.
He also operates libertadpura.com (which is registered in Costa Rica). He originally disassociated himself from that site (his blog references made it out to be just a business partner). However, when it was pointed out on another blog that libertadpura.com was registered to the personal DRIVER he mentioned using while in Costa Rica, the registration info suddenly became private.
Judging by some of the experiences described by others online, you might get the idea that James Brausch is also just not a very nice guy.
By the way, he is a self-confessed former homeless meth addict who somehow transformed himself into a business “guru.”
You’ll notice he even has a Wikipedia entry. Clearly, written by either him or his ‘publicist.’ I’m surprised it hasn’t been flagged for review yet (self promotion is not permitted in Wikipedia).

I’m curious as to what exactly you’re referring to. I went to the site looking for some “good dirt” and just found out that his son doesn’t want to take a nap, his wife just had a miscarriage and his in-laws came down for a visit.

I think this comment refer to how this family has not to work because they make money from the senseless people on the internet. It also sound like some aspect of their lifes not always perfect. That is probably due to karma from all the people who have been made to dislike them from bad experience and so on. This is the shame you bring upon yourself when you have spam and pollute the world with bad intentions.

Here’s my 2 cents for what it’s worth. YOU ALL ARE RIGHT about this guy. I used to live one block away from him in Costa Rica. He bought my family things, but there was a price to pay for it all – long story short he tried to screw me in the back. The names of James Brausch, Diego Norte, Libertad Puro, and Weight Loss Dude are basically about James Brausch. He moved to Nicaragua shortly after he tried to wreck my good name with my local church authorities. I smelled a rat the first time I met him and that was confirmed to me many times over. Even one of my daughters told me as much, sharp girl! I could go on and on with lots of stories, but you get the drift. James Brausch is all about one thing in the end and that is himself. Bottom line – stay clear of the man and his evil ways.
Rick I think he mentioned you in his blog once. Was it connected to the rant he had where he used the phrase about people “pooping on his floor?” LOL.

This creep has hundreds of aliases. I just talked to a guy who said he was contacted by the FBI about him. He really is wanted for fraud and get this… his 17 year old son killed someone in Arizona over some kind of drug thing. You can find that under his Rick Neumann alias in the Arizona newspapers.
He is in central america because of some kind of drug connection with the famous Diego Norte Montoya drug cartel of Columbia! They are getting close to busting him and already busted his boss!

Both Stephen and Michel are renowned copywriters (people who specialize in writing salesletters) and I’ve met Michel in person. Now look at the signature on infoprodcreation.com and click the paypal link to see yet another alias. Don’t trust the deniers. I think it’s up to them to prove they aren’t Brausch/Norte/Dean.

But “Diego Norte” is a fake name created by Brausch. And he was very open about that. He used to have his business blog at jamesbrausch.com, then jamesbrausch.org.
And at that blog he explained he was going to start taking himself out of the business. So he created the name Diego Norte (Diego is the equivalent of James in Spanish) to be the mascot for the business leaving room for him to retire. That’s what he did. Now diegonorte.com sells all of Brausch’s products. Big whoop.

For anyone who happens upon this blog and has had a problem with James D. Brausch, PLEASE do the following:
1. Contact the State Attorney General for Utah (which is where he resides). If your complain involves spam, state you are a victim of the CANN Spam act. You can find Brausch’s last known address through the Complaint Board links above. Simply Google “Utah State Attorney General” and check the web site for how to submit a complaint. It is not difficult.
2. Submit a complaint to the “Rip Off Report” and “Complaint Board” sites above, along with any similar sites online. This only takes a few minutes.
3. Submit a complaint through the Better Business Bureau (BBB). You should probably do so through the Salt Lake City BBB (simply Google the link). Again, this is quick and simple.
By submitting your complaint, you are helping others.
There is something VERY STRANGE about why Stephen Dean would make such a mission out of coming here and repeatedly defending James Brausch. Granted, maybe he has LOTS of time on his hands and nothing better to do…but normal people just don’t go around defending people like this Brausch. You’ve got to wonder what’s up with that. (No need to explain Stephen, that’s just a rhetorical question and I don’t have enough respect for you to care about your indefensible excuses.)
I do have lots of time on my hands. Brausch has helped me out a lot. So why not respond to absurd scammer accusations.

We all know that you are Brausch trying to confuse the issue. You have done the same thing over and over on dozens of other blogs. Aliases don’t fake us out at all.

The original poster might have been joking, but I think you can see from the comments that Stephen Dean/James Brausch/Diego Norte/Matt Trainer/Joshua Karlin/Michel Fortin, etc is a very bad guy who spams, cheats on his taxes and scams people under many, many names.
The original poster may be the only one who didn’t post anonymous, but dozens of anonymous comments must mean something; right?
He must know that at least some of the allegations true or he wouldn’t allow it on his blog. I hope he still shared the emails with the proper authorities even if it was just spam. This guy is obviously very evil. We have to get him for something.

James, if you are reading this, I tried one of your software products some time ago and it was awful. In addition, getting support was impossible. It wasn’t long after I started seeing all the negative posts on the internet about you.

Diego Norte isn’t a mascot. It’s a business just like Crunch Gear is a business. It’s a registered corporation just like Microsoft, Google and AOL. They all have complaints about them too. People complain about the quality of their products. Other people complain about their customer service. It’s all part of being a company.
I don’t often hear people complaining that Microsoft cheats on their taxes or lures kids into vans though. Usually that’s because it is illegal to say things like that. It’s called defamation and Crunch Gear will learn the hard way I suppose.
It sounds like James Brausch isn’t even active on the Internet anymore. I’m guessing he’ll eventually see the above defamation though and have his lawyers sue Crunch Gear for damages just as Bill Gates or Microsoft would.
How would you like it if someone joked around and said that John Biggs was a spammer? How about if you were on a sail boat in the middle of the Pacific Islands when the alleged spam occurred? Finally, James Brausch’s tactics are backfiring in full, open view. What’s more, James and his entourage are inadvertently keeping the fire burning despite their best attempts otherwise. Keep fanning those flames, James!

Seems the guy on the chiropractor site (Greg Molis) is really Brausch’s father in law, although the web site itself is clearly registered to Brausch.
