Circuit City and CompUSA now have another partner to sing the retail blues with ‘em. Office Depot has announced plans to close 112 stores, or 9% of their North American retail spots over the next three months. Specifics haven’t been announced, but we do know ”45 stores in the Central U.S., 40 in the Northeast and Canada, 19 in the West and eight in the South” will be closing. Oh, and 13 distribution facilities will be closing-up shop, too. Okay, who’s next? Office Max? Micro Center? Best Buy?

I’d bet the Madison, WI Office Depot makes the list of cuts, they are located in a useless strip mall located conveniently across the street from the mall that everyone stopped going to about twenty years ago. Although there is a sweet comic book shop in the strip mall, but I’m not sure it’s drawing in the OD crowd.
I hope most Chicago stores close!
I shop at Staples anyway. Better service, better choices. AND I get my rewards quickly.
I’m not worried about Best Buy. Yes, there is some restructuring going on, but they’ll pull through. Too bad about Office Depot though. I know that my work orders their office supplies from them.
Anyone know of the list of store locations that are going to be closed yet? Thanks in advance.
