Having lost my Netgear NAS (SC101) the device fried and in the process fried both the HDDs contained within. Lost everything. All my pictures of my children, wedding ect. (Yes I was running mirrored). I do like the fact that it is switch-off-able.

PVR recorded TV Shows are replacable (eventually when the episodes are re-aired), MP3s take a little time to re-rip from my CDs but the pictures are irreplacable. Since HP seems to have a good track record with me (2 HP laptops at home) was looking for something to replace my SC101 and was not going to go with a seperate Netgear offering. Sharing USB drives works, but they do have their limitations.

I need a centralized area for pics, videos, and my documents and a lot more space for our family. I would love to watch my recorded shows from my kitchen! Its such a hassle when we buy new computers or one goes down and all of our drives are full. It would be so nice to see if the server would solve a lot of our issues.
Thanks for the chance!

I'd love an Home Server to backup the photos of my baby. Currently I'm using an online service to do backups but it sure would be cool to own the backup device instead of depending upon others to provide a service.

Just before Christmas I built a "trial" WHS on a Fujitsu Esprimo 5030 i have to say WHS is the best thing I've seen MS do in a long time. I've tweaked it somewhat to allow WMP11 to install on WHS and use UNC paths, added the fantastic Vista Media centre IPlayer addin on the clients, Utorrent to download (other versions of WHS), added two extra drives to store all of the movies I get for my boys.
All of this blatant infringement is simply to control what content my 2 and 4 yr. old boys have access to and remove all of the crappy adverts which run every ten mins on kids channels. Please help me go straight and provide a better example to the younger generations. Failure to do so could potentially result in the corruption of those two tiny impressionable minds.

[...] We just reviewed and gave away one of these things, and now they’re dropping a new one! Well, that’s the business we’re in. The new HP MediaSmart server works with both Windows and OS X, so if you’re on a mac and don’t want to pay a premium for a brushed-aluminum NAS, this may be your lucky day.
