Mercedes first to implement SPLITVIEW COMMAND

We told you about it back in February, but Merc is the first company to have it in a production vehicle. The system will allow you to have two viewers using the same screen, while viewing different content.

Ideally, this would allow the driver to view travel information while the passenger watches a movie. Or vice versa if you know where you’re going and love getting in accidents. This will reportedly be available on all S-Class models starting summer of 2009.

  • And Mercedes-Benz wins the award for:

Advertisement which tries to technically display what a new feature does, without showing anything remotely resembling what the product actually does.

None of the articles I have read on this new feature state this clearly. The screen in the middle of the dash, shows one image to the driver, and a different image to the passenger. Of course, you can’t really show that in a fancy picture.

The ad makes it seem, that the images are floating in space, or in front of each of the viewers. Not true, and not possible yet.
