Gamers are a large group of people. Hardcore gamers like the graphics of the PS3 and the Xbox 360. Most of those people are between the ages of 14 and 30. The difference with the Wii is that it appeals to those age ranges as well as people that are above those age ranges. In turn, those people have the expendable income to purchase items like that more freely, therefore the Wii does better.

Simply, the Wii is much easier to pick up and play without a steep learning curve for the most part. Its fun with a group of people and Wii parties are common where I am from. People get together and cook out, drink, and end up playing the Wii as a group.

Surprised Wii Music did that well too. It's always the noobs and little kids who go after the simple and boring games instead of the more hardcore ones like mario kart or super mario galaxy. I'm surprised brawl still isn't in the top 10 because that is a heck of a game.
