Tired of the glare from the sun on your notebook screen? Well, LG has cleverly found a solution to use that sunlight for increased visibility and efficiency. Today, LG Display announced a new 14.1-inch LCD dedicated for notebooks, designed for both indoor and outdoor use.

The idea of an adaptive backlight isn’t new, but this screen gives optimum visiblity under all conditions. The screen switches from transmissive to reflective mode; it is illuminated by sunlight instead of the backlight unit when used outdoors. According to LG, not only will the screen give you a clear view of your screen display, it also reduces power consumption by 75% when used outdoors. We’ll see this screen debut at CES next month.
