Bravo to George Lucas for making a mockery of many of our childhoods. The Star Wars creator (and destroyer) has approved the production of “Star Wars: A Musical Journey,” a musical that will open in London next year.
It features—and I kid you not—a “Stormtrooper kick line and singing Wookies.”
The musical, which opens in April at the O2 Arena over there in London, incorporates all six Star Wars movies, conveiently edited to a bite-sized two hours.
No word just yet about an American release.
I never got into Star Wars, but feel free to include me in your “Thanks, George, for bilking every last cent out of my childhood memories.”

The cartoon is horrible and the idea of a musicale sends shivers down my spine.
So is this the final signal that originality and creativity are officially dead?
Let him destroy it, remember he created it. and the whole musical thing is madness, I mean: of all places London? http://www.youtechno.info
“Say goodbye to your childhood”??? No way! Here’s the opportunity for all of us that missed The Star Wars Christmas Special to live the wonder of Star Wars in a completely inappropriate arena!
C’mon! Outside of my Uncle Jimmy, his Boba Fett doll, and my 5-year-old crying self, Star Wars hasn’t been in such an inappropriate place since, well, never! It’ll be fun! (At least, that’s what my Uncle Jimmy used to say…)
This reminds me of when The Simpsons had the “Planet of the Apes” musical.

Ooooh Dr. Zaius
Can I play the piano anymore?
Why of course you can!
Well, I couldn’t before!
We must re-double our time machine efforts to send Patton Oswalt back – with a shovel.
Please say it’s going to be on ice.

I don’t know where e! got their info … I read the original press release and it said that it would basically be a long concert of the London Philharmonic doing all Star Wars music, and that there would be accompanying clips. As far as I knew it was simply a live version of this (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0459164/) dvd.
One good idea? Yup, that’s right… Let us deny this ever happened.
Now if it only was Star Wars on Ice… Even the Christmas Special… :D
musical JOURNEY, not musical. Don’t do that again, I almost got sick on Christmas eve.
Um…
it ISN’T a musical!
It’s a concert, basically. A tribute to the music of Star Wars and John Williams…the music we all know. No new songs and no singing wookies (the rumor mill went into overtime on this).
There may be some incorporation of Star Wars video or props or staging (I’m just guessing here, because the original article doesn’t even say that), but it shouldn’t be unlike what you see at most concerts these days.
So, no worries…yet. I’m sure all this hoopla will inspire someone to try to do a true musical based on Star Wars. It will probably be terrible (although, they’re doing wonderful things with musicals nowadays, so I guess there’s hope), but we’ll have to go see it because it’s Star Wars and there’s still money to be made in that franchise.
What the heck are talking about! I think it’s an awesome idea to make a cartoon and musical of Star Wars. I recently became a fan and can’t wait! Heck it’s better then that crppy High School Musical! At least Star Wars has awesome music to translate into lyrics!
It’s an orchestra playing John Williams music. Few props and they have edited all six films into two hours for the background. That’s it. Sounds good.
Just seen it and its not a musical.
Its amazing and if it comes to your country you have to see it!
Relax I saw it the other day. A bit of fun, done in a tasteful way with some great music played excellently. If you’re worried about the original trilogy being messed with you’re about a decade too late :)
