Flippin’ through this week’s Best Buy ad, CG reader Carlos spotted something amiss. “Surf and e-mail with the simplicity of Windows XP”, said the header above the netbook section. That’s a great line; it’s simple and to the point. Thing is, the display of every netbook below the header is showing not XP, but Vista.
Oddly, everyone of the netbook models shown does come with XP by default. All they had to do to catch the error was actually look at one of them, or at least hit up Google Image Search for “default Windows XP desktop”

It’s sad that they have to advertise the “simplicity of Windows XP” to sell Vista. Maybe not an accident? =).
Actually they do come with Windows XP, the screenshot is photoshopped into most PCs in the ad as the main computer images are taking in a photo lab without being powered up. They simply edit post photo shoot by placing stamped images. Since netbooks are the only Windows XP machines Best Buy sells in the stores, it was an overlooked mistake.
BB will always come up with some “technical” way to persuade customers to spend their money. They’re very unethical in this way.
While I can forgive the occasional graphical equivalent of a typo, I really, really can’t stand Best Buy. They actually come up with ways to make shopping more arduous than it already is. Unbelievable.
How does it make a diff now?? Vista is everywhere!!!
Why can’t they have their price tag marked wrong instead? sigh
Wonder if they know what GNU/Linux is. Dell and System76.com do:

OH MY GOD IT’S A FUCKING TRAVESTY.
It’s a stock photo. You aren’t uncovering anything here.
having worked at best buy in a past life, i can say the average customer barely looks at the picture and picks the product. if you wanna bitch about an ad, go ahead, but you’re an idiot for nitpicking about shit like that. who cares.
