Great news for people who a) own an iPhone or iPod Touch and b) never know what kind of topping to get when eating Sushi: Tokyo-based Shogakukan, known outside Japan for its extensive offerings of manga (Ichi The Killer, Ranma 1/2, Crying Freeman etc). is releasing a virtual sushi guide for these devices.
The sushi neta zukan (illustrated sushi encyclopedia) will become available in Japanese within this month but on the product website [JP], Shogakukan promises foreigners will enjoy the app, too, as it will have an English appendix. It’s going to cost $5.
The guide will contain pictures and descriptions of 82 different kinds of sushi, ideal for frequent travelers to Japan like John Biggs, for example (“Serkan, this topping looks like baby poo!”).
Shogakukan is already offering a special iPhone guide for Japanese mushrooms (covering 50 different kinds), but that encyclopedia is Japanese only.

There are already 2 other sushi guides for the iPhone that cost only $1.99 each, SushiTime and Sushi Monger. They each give the romanized version of the Japanese names, have photos and descriptions in English, sort them by types and allow you to tag favorites.
Thanks for information ;)

why cant you just log into net using your laptop and search for information on Sushi??? Isnt that easier??

I don’t think I would want sushi on my I-phone because I am not a real be fan of sushi
Wow… it is amazing that you would enter a post about sushi applications on the iPhone if you didn’t like sushi.
Trying to imagine that logic process…
Don’t touch that stuff. If God wanted us to eat Sushi he would not have invented fire.
Heads up, don’t be a victim of identiy theft – Panda Internet Security 2009 is selling for $20
when it usually sells for $80. It will protect you from over 2 million viruses, spyware and
rootkits and has a web filter for the kids. This deal is only good until December 31st

any sushi guide should educate its users to not order bluefin tuna due to the declining stocks. These guides can be a great resource to help people identify bluefin by the many Japanese names used to describe it.
techcrunch readers who care about the bluefin and want to voice their support can sound off on the first social network (on NING) dedicated to helping the bluefin tuna @ http://www.savethebluefin.com
So … in other words … order your bluefin tuna while you can still enjoy it?
Sure, if enjoyment can be classified as participating in the act of literally *eating* our way through one of the ocean’s greatest fish, then have at it. But the real question is, if the bluefin falls, what’s next? This is really a question of whether people have the strength to save themselves from themselves. So taking the last bite, when you know it may be the last forever, may be enjoyable for a moment but what then?
So whale meat is right out eh?
I have never even tried sushi, let alone think about what toppings go with it. Is it something that I must try? Maybe its because I have never been to the far east. I havent got any Sushi places near me. How about that for an idea? Have nearest Sushi restaurant list as part of the Sushi guide application.
Interesting App, Wrong Price Strategy.
I love sushi, but we human have thousands of other things we can eat. Let’s give bluefin tuna and other non-sustainable fish a rest.
Looks tasty. I hope it has the chicken Panco and Chicken Mackey sushi.
can it find me the name of this sushi restaurant that serves oyogu hone?

That’s making me hungry just looking at it! It would be useful if they could have it in different languages or a translator app as part of it too to make ordering abroad easier. order Sushi in Kiev last week and that would have made it so much easier!
