Looks like the iPod Touch had a good Christmas, as App Store downloads on December 25th increased three-fold or more for most titles.
The boost in sales "appears to be from a large influx of iPod Touch users," according to MacRumors.com, who noted that it would have been much easier to give an iPod Touch as a Christmas gift versus an iPhone, which would have to be activated and whatnot.
This also goes to show that — surprise — people are using the iPod Touch for much more than just music and videos. I own the first generation Touch and I bet I only use it about 20% of the time for music and videos, instead using it most often for web surfing and gaming.

This may sound awfully bad, but I am yet to own an ipod. And I love listening to music, but I just haven’t gotten one for myself, but I have given a few to some of my friends as presents, but just not for myself.
I have to go and get one for myself in 2009….!
Guilty! Oh so very, very guilty :)
It seems like Apple comes out with a new product every month. I think that they need to slow down just a little bit to let people catch up on some of the items they have just released.
Got one as well :)
I’m actually one of those new iPod Touch owners - a 32 GB model. Very, very, VERY happy with it - it does everything I wanted from an iPhone without requiring me to get on AT&Terrible and pay an exorbitant monthly fee.
yeah, just like me,i just gave a ipod touch to my friend as christmas gift

Apple Created sensation with iPhone. Now iPod Touch takes it turn. There are many applications available at app-store to effectively use them. Recently HP releases iPrint Photo for iPhone and IPod Touch, to print wireless.
Doug Aamoth and all you posters,
at least get the name right!
It’s ‘touch’ not ‘Touch’!
Well, I’ll be popping back to the more informed sites now.
The first few posts I did about this device waaaay back when it was announced had me doing the whole lowercase thing, but it just looked and felt too weird so I abandoned it after a while.
Thanks for stopping by, fleeting though our time together was. I’ll never forget you, Muffin Man. Godspeed and God bless.
Very cool news about Apple…hopefully they’ll target iPod Touch owners more directly with future apps.
Similar thing happened to our android apps. Many people bought G1 this Christmas.
I am one of those people who got one and downloaded apps on Christmas.
I wanted an iphone but if you are locked into a contract on another network it becomes much less attractive.
A tripling in the sale of apps could be from a number of things:
1. spending money from parents
2. buying iPhone gifts for someone else
3. time off work to shop for a game
It doesn’t necessarily have to be an increase in sales.

How great is the article? Apple’s stock is going to do great this quarter. They can think amazon.com for thats boost. -Ronald H. of Revenueherald.com
I got the 16 gig version and I am very satisfied.
I would have taken an iPhone instead but I would have had to pay full price since my cellphone contract is less than a year old.
Interesting..But makes complete sense..
And for the next year holiday, i prefer an 80gig hard drive ipod touch, replacing the out-of-touch ipod classic. Go figure it out, Steve!
It is the other way around:
the App Store boosts iPod Touch sales
The ipod touch is a great device that Apple will build upon. The only thing I do not like is that I wish their was a built in microphone so you can use it as a free phone with wifi connection through voip and make free phone calls.
“I love my iphone 3g. It is lightyears ahead of anything else out there. “
The 2nd generation iPod Touch is an almost perfect device.
