hdtv-best-buy-deception1

As I recall we had an issue a few months back with another big box store but someone just caught Best Buy also using HDMI cables and comparing them to component cables. Consumerist just found another example. While this is obviously a massive fraud it might have been the only way the Best Buy folks could think to stream the same signal from the Blu-Ray player to both TVs – besides, obviously, using two Blu-Ray players.

What is this mysterious calibration? The tipster asked and discovered:

I called over one of their oh-so-helpful employees and asked them to describe what calibration meant. His explanation involved someone who has some certifications messing with the color combo’s till they feel that the TV “looks good”.

Stay classy, Best Buy.

  • Quick Note: Last night I spent an hour trying to make an in store pick up of some BOSE in ear headphones. They were sitting on the counter in sight, were long since pre-paid, and they were ONLY busy at the returns counter. I had to call management from in the store to get someone to even recognize I was there.
I also found that their website is not very mobile compatible. When searching for location on a mobile webkit browser, it constantly tells you your session has timed out after 30 minutes, rather than return zip code based store results..
I left the location without getting to speak with a manager (when they closed), without the headphones.

This is the #1 retailer I thought.. In my opinion, the days of in store retail are ending very, very fast. I only bought there, because my gift card, made it $1 cheaper than Newegg shipped….

    • Why dont you consider the fact that you are not the only person on earth you self centered complainer. I happen to love Best Buy and as it may be they have a huge customer base and customer loyalty that is unparalled. Maybe the had an issue much bigger han your $50 headphones………..

    Shill much?

  • In my experiences with Best Buy, they suck. The employees have little tech knowledge, but act like they know it all. eg. They sell it, therefor they are experts at it. WRONG!!! C’mon they work in retail. How smart can they be? :-\

    • I think this thread is loosing focus as soo often hapens on the internet: We start with one subject, someone adds a sidenote, another leaves a colorful comment on that sidenote, yet another leaves a comment on the comment and completes the thought with yet a different point of view followed by what, a sidenote…all of which have very little to do with the original idea. Is it just me or does this utterly suck? I originally clicked here to read about trickery and ended up getting people’s retail purchasing location ratings? WTF?!!(What The FRACK: for those who think I’m cursing) I’m just saying can somebody expound a little more on the whole HDMI/Component thing and why its so bad for those who don’t know/understand and want to stick with the original subject. Look man, when you come into Burgerking drivethru looking for a whopper, I don’t try to give you a car wash, or comment on the shoe shining ability of the drivethru teller.
