So we had about 45-50 people at the event tonight and I was amazed at the energy and excitement here in my hometown, good old Columbus. I met the guy who sold me a car this weekend and the guy who invented the PowerSquid. There are a few start-ups and products I’m going to highlight this week and I’m pleased to say that these folks are amazingly excited and enthusiastic, even in a down economy.
Here’s to you, Columbus. I’ve been so coast-centric this decade that I failed to see your true worth and the beauty of your bar culture. Special thanks to CG writer Scott (scott at crunchgear.com, if you want to get in touch with him) for suggesting the joint.

Glad to hear it went well. Columbus has built a thriving technology community and has many Internet startups cooking. Lots of great stuff to come.
Hey TechCrunchers and CrunchGearheads – looks like the event was a huge success. Sorry I couldn’t join you tonight, crazy day…still going…no end in sight. I will crunch with you next time around!
Good times. Glad to hear you’ll be writing about what you discovered here in Columbus.
Just don’t drink the water:)
Gosh.. more than half of the last 20 articles have been about either iPhone or Twitter.
What does this reply have to do with your Columbus meetup? Exactly..
I thought TechCrunch was about startups.
Yeah, I couldn’t make it either.
I feel very much left out.
Too bad there’s no make-up meetup. May be next time, hopefully soon…!
Oh man, I didn’t even know this was going on in my own backyard! Was this a spur of the moment thing? Darnit…I wish I had known – I actually could have made it!
John,
Sorry I missed it when are you guys coming tot Chicago?
Columbus is the next up and coming tech city. What, nobody told you? TechCrunch is welcome anytime. For the next one we’ll find a bigger space :-).
For those looking to find local tech events, Cbus Tech Life (a group of volunteers) organizes events and posts others’ events to http://www.meetup.com/columbustech/.
Thanks for organizing a great event. We have a lot of exciting things going on in Columbus. (Forbes even named Columbus the #1 Up-And-Coming Tech Cities in the US!) We look forward to giving you reasons to come back soon and often. Thanks!
Sorry I missed out…schedule conflict…rather off-center in the testosterone mix
Come on Jim – even i was there !!
Had a great time talking to everyone. Was kinda tight for the number of people we packed in there. Surly girl is a great bar though.
I’m upset I missed it. I’m a student at Ohio State and it sounds like it was a great event for Columbus. I’m home for the holidays but hopefully we’ll have another one that I can attend.
As a Columbus resident, I’d love to see CrunchGear / TechCrunch readers get together more often. I’m happy to coordinate such events, too. Send me an email if you have suggestions for times and places for next time.
I’m certain there’s a demand for this. With a little more notice, I have no doubt we could triple attendance. Surly Girl was nice, but we would need a much bigger place.
I know a spot that holds about 105,000. You might like it there Alvin. :-)
My place is bigger than your place.
It was a fun and interesting evening! So many thinkers!
This is great! Glad to see that the awesomeness that is Columbus is finally getting noticed. Welcome and let’s do it again! (That way I can go next time.)
Columbus? Gimme a break. What’s next? A TC meetup in Poughkeepsie?
Oh come on, Forbes #1 Up and coming Tech City in the US. The 15th highest population. Seems like a pretty good place.
here’s a hint : don’t show your ignorance to the rest of the world….
It was an awesome event. John – thanks for setting up. We hope the TC/CG crew comes back soon. We got a incredible amount of entrepreneurs doing great things here.
