Here's a thought Ted - you genius - why don't you CUT BACK on what you're spending?
Oregonians and Americans better wake up to the fact that it is not only not necessary for gov't to grow, it is the opposite of the principles this country was founded on.
I love how most of the media reporting on this has just simply swallowed the pill that makes them believe that it is acceptable for the gov't to grow at the overwhelming expense to the people.
Ted's proposal is sickening. Support for his insane political philosophy is inexcusable.

"yes, it’s the Dems that came up with the Patriot Act, after all."

I would challenge that by asking you to name on instance where you were affected by some aspect of the patriot act. What rights/freedoms have you lost due to the patriot act? None. In addition to that, I would submit that you can't (honestly) name one person you know who has suffered for a minute due to the patriot act.

Now, if you're interested in a logical debate as opposed to puking leftist garbage, I would be willing to concede the need for sunsetting the patriot act. I will concede that it gives far too much power too the federal gov't. But I will defend it's necessity at the time and perhaps some aspects of it for the next several years. As a lefty, if you want the patriot act gone, you'd better become pro-war real quick. As long as there is a percieved threat the patriot act isn't going anywhere.

The idea is to do away with the gas tax and replace it with a mileage tax. Because cars are getting more fuel efficient they are able to drive more miles and do more road wear without generating an equal increase in gas tax revenue to pay for it.

The preliminary plan he has outlined would have new cars with the GPS units installed being taxed based on mileage while older cars would continue to pay the gas tax. There have already been tests conducted with several hundred cars and two gas stations in the Portland area and they apparently worked well.

So what will he do with converted electric cars? - These can be charged from off the grid PV cells or wind turbines.
Will he tax the food you buy in correlation to the mileage you cycle on your bike? :-)

I'm not from Oregon, but don't they already tax how many miles you travel by taxing the gasoline you purchase? Sounds like double-dipping to me.
