Not exactly Ken,

The "old junk" uses about 75% less energy than the "new junk". Do a little research will ya?

[...] Should ‘inefficient’ tv’s be banned? That’s just what California is planning. The California Energy Commission hopes to end the burden of energy-inefficient plasma and LCD TVs on the state’s power grid. The regulations are expected to pass mid-2009, and could be in full effect by 2013. Officials claim that the standards, once fully in place, would be a power gain equivalent to that of 87,000 homes. On the flip side, if the regulations do pass, it will surely remove some TVs from store shelves and slightly boost sticker prices. New California energy regulations would remove certain plasmas, LCDs from store shelves [...]

Pretty sure Diddy isn't going down to best buy to scoop up his batch of 103" Panasonics... Average Joe might find it a bit of a hassle to go and get his T.V. cheaper online, though. Heh.

Wouldn't they do better in going after people with old junk that uses a LOT more energy.
Like, have some sort of trade in program for old clunky CRT TVs (especially those console TVs) for a more economical LCD panel TV.
Trade old cars that are not only fuel hogs, but also higher polluters, for something a lot more efficient without a lot of cost.
