Western Digital now has Mac-specific My Passport, My Book external hard drives

Hell Week is upon us, and the first thing I bring to you is word of new Mac-specific hard drives from Western Digital. (I type this as a nearly two-year-old 500 GB My Book hums, seeding untold numbers of albums and movies.) Both the portable My Passport for Mac (pictured here) and desktop My Book for Mac come pre-formated in HFS+ (the Mac’s file system, so no out-of-the-box reformatting) and work with Time Machine. Then again, every hard drive does, so…

Both drives use USB 2.0—I miss Firewire already—and are outfitted with a special X-Men-like exoskeleton to protect it from shocks and so forth.

Capacities: the Passport comes in 320GB and 500GB, which is a little on the small side, while the My Book goes all the way up to 1TB, which is more my style.
