Better hurry up if you want to download the Windows 7 beta, since Microsoft is only allowing the first 2.5 million of you to try it out. Those of you with fancy TechNet and MSDN connections can grab it now; everyone else will have to wait till tomorrow, Friday, January 9.
You should note that, in order to use the Windows 7 beta you’ll have to be upgrading from Vista SP1. So if you’re one of those “Vista sucks~!” people you’ll have to figure something out.
And, obviously, you won’t want to be running this as your main operating system.
The beta will expire in August.

What’s with the download slots? I don’t see the point why they would limit downloads, it’s going to expire anyway.
I believe this statement is incorrect: “You should note that, in order to use the Windows 7 beta you’ll have to be upgrading from Vista SP1.”
According to The Windows Blog (http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/01/07/information-on-downloading-and-installing-windows-7-beta.aspx) you can do a clean install, too; they just mean that if you want to perform an upgrade install, you must be starting from a Vista SP1 machine.
From Brandon LeBlanc in the comments: “Posted on: January 08, 2009 at 2:41AM
bninefounder, you can most certainly do a clean install of the Windows 7 Beta. I usually do clean installs myself – especially on my laptops. The statement applies to upgrade scenarios.” (http://windowsteamblog.com/blogs/windows7/archive/2009/01/07/information-on-downloading-and-installing-windows-7-beta.aspx#504690)
@ DAVE : i don’t think so, i read many review of windows 7 beta and leaked 7000 build and no 1 mentioned about having a Vista sp1 as a prerequisite.
I really hope this Windows 7 will not have so many bugs… I know it is in beta version but, I think I will be using it until it expires. If it doesn’t disappoint me… I hope not, many reviewers say that it is faster and more stable which means… nice.
how will this update improve my vista I already have and will make my download faster without problems.
Getting my new notebook tomorrow (HP G60-243CL 16.0″W RM-722.1GHz-3GB DDR2-320GB HDD-AMD Turion™ X2 Dual-Core) — have used only XP in the past — should I install & use W-7 from day one?
Must install Office 2007 – will it work?
everything will work if it’s working in Vista. It’s actually Vista SP3.
Microsoft Announces Windows7 beta will be available on 9th January 2009. Have a look at key points of the announcement
