Don’t expect a new Xbox anytime soon

The Xbox1 came out in November of 2001. Four years later, November of 2005, Microsoft released the Xbox 360. So, should we expect a new Xbox eight months hence? In a word, no.

Apparently Microsoft knows that not too many people are keen on upgrading their Xbox 360. A rough economy means fewer people have tons of disposable income lying around. Plus, the Xbox 360 is so much more than a mere game console: it streams Netflix, it downloads movies quick-like and, um, other stuff. (I still mainly use it as a video game console, for the record.)

So, Microsoft will instead focus on adding features and other things to the 360 rather than coming out with a whole new console. It saves you the trouble of having to buy a new console in a few months, and it gives Microsoft and its “content partners” some time to figure out how to maximize the console’s potential.

  • How is this news? honestly, microsoft and sony have both said they won’t be releasing new consoles until 2011.

there’s no point in releasing a new console right now anyways…games have just started to tap into these consoles full power. the same could be said for their online content.

obviously the economy impacts the refresh time as well, but i wouldn’t expect any new consoles until 3D matures to a place that its useful and cheap relatively cheap.

  • This is good news to here. I’m 100% happy with my 360 and I wouldn’t even ask for anything else.

  • In all honesty, the Playstation is still far ahead of it’s time, what really needs a refresh is Wii, I think XBox is fine for a few more years.

  • Really, I really like to have a blu-ray drive built into the xbox, then I will buy one. I am happy with my PS3.

    I vote with my wallet.

  • There is nothing wrong with the 360

  • I have built my own computers that are better put together than the xbox 360, and I’m no techie.

  • The Xbox 360 is an amazing machine, but like all Microsoft products, they left us to do the dirty work. Bugs, problems, and over all poor construction, for us to deal with. We find the problem, they try and fix it. That’s how Microsoft has done things for years and that’s how they will continue to do things.

I am for 360 and always will be for its games and the joypad. But seeing mates PS3 I miss internet browser, Free online gaming and its quite fan. Installing game on 360 hard drive does help here abit.

Blue ray not so much as i dont rent movies much and too expensive to buy.
