What’s the easiest way to ensure that the Xbox 360 you’re buying is one of those Jasper ones, one with a 65nm CPU that runs cooler and shouldn’t be as susceptible to the red ring of death? On the little cutout on the back of the Xbox 360, you need to maneuver the system so that you can see the power rating. Spot a “12,1A” and the Jasper is yours. But, why wouldn’t Microsoft simply put on the front of the system a little sticker or something that says “includes new and improved Jasper CPU!”
That’s what Ars Technica wanted to know, too. So it asked one of them there group product managers, Aaron Greenberg, why Microsoft makes it so damn hard to figure out if the Xbox 360 is Jasper or not.
It looks like Microsoft doesn’t want to draw attention to the Xbox 360’s hardware problems. If they were to highlight that newer versions of the 360 (the Jaspers) are a “safer” buy, then, I don’t know, panic will ensue.
So, if you’re dead set on buying a Jasper, you’re more than likely savvy enough to Google “how to tell jasper xbox 360.” Otherwise, nope, Microsoft doesn’t want to make a big deal out of this.
Because if they did that, no one would buy any of the old stock.
I just received my 2nd replacement, 3rd consol total, and it already sounds like it’s on the way out. If I come across a Jasper, I’ll buy one no questions asked.

The PS3 outsold the 360 handidly throughout 2008 until Microsoft were FORCED to cut the price in September.
Also, despite being twice the price, the PS3 outsells the Xbox 360 3 – to – 1 EVERY SINGLE WEEK (In Japan).
It seems quite a lot of people want the PS3 (20 million isn’t a small number). It seems only non – gamers and the poor are the ones who are picking up the 360.
The question you should be asking is why, if the 360 is the cheapest console, does the 360 get outsold by the Wii? I thought consumers were supposed to be more price consious right now – why are they opting for the more expensive console???

Sony have a 1 year warranty on all PS3 consoles, genius. So when my precious PS3 Blu – Ray laser DID burn out a few months ago they replaced it for FREE. As for free shipping both ways………they cover that too.

The new thing with Jasper is not the 65nm CPU, that has been in place since the Falcon version. The new thing in the Jasper is the 65nm GPU, and onboard 256Mb flash memory.
For those of use out there not concerned about rubbish like being “a real man” we’ll take the xbox 360 any day for a few simple reasons. Firstly it’s about 10000000 times cheaper and secondly the ps3 has about 2 decent exclusive games on it. So why bother?

I found the new XBOX Jaspers. The Arcade versions are the only ones I found with the new jasper chipset. The reason is b/c it is cheaper they are selling them faster and the Pro and Elite which are sitting on the shelves. I live in DC and went to majority of the electronics stores in DC, MD and VA looking for the jasper based Pro or Elite but still no luck, just the arcade version for now at Best Buy. I am debating just getting the arcade version and upgrading it with a HDD or waiting around a bit more.

I bought 6 Xbox 360 elite and all of them broke on me. The last 360 I bought was month ago and it just broke on me with RROD. I spend too much money for the 360 that was made in Fucking BArrak Country! I’m a 360 owner. Ok regarding the PS3 argument, yes it is more expensive but some of us, like me, had to buy two 360s because the first piece of poo-poo that went south on me. The only reason to get a 360 instead of a PS3 are the better crop of software titles and that’s the only reason. The PS3 is the same or superior in every other way.
