According to Chinese-language Economic Daily News a chip manufacturer is going to receive microchip orders from Apple sometime in March which must mean that we should see an iPhone Nano sometime around June. Right? It must. Maybe.
Will the iPhone Nano be a lower-cost alternative? Or will it be a premium, small product? If Apple wanted a lower cost iPhone, the company could simply lower the cost on the profit-heavy current iPhone cries the Internet Gurus. Unless, that is, the price is locked into a contract with AT&T or there is a whole new lineup coming.
So, if there is an iPhone Nano coming in June and it’s going to a be low cost model, it only makes sense that Apple will then launch a higher memory and more powerful full-size iPhone at the same time. That way the company would be able to market one as inexpensive and the other as full featured without taking anything away from the current hot-selling iPhone 3G.
Then again, this is just a f’n rumor from a Chinese news source. Probably not a good idea to hold your breath.

Please stop. I cant take the iPhone nano rumors anymore. The only way a nano would work would be if they made it a straight phone meaning no email and no app store. Just phone, ipod and browser like when the first iPhone originally came out. But is there really a need for this? Why not just bring back the 4GB and make that $99?
This is utter nonsense. There is NO market for the smaller screen, as you cannot browse sensibly, and your experience is stunted. The Steve would not approve….why not just offer smaller (read 4g) phones?
Yes, I think it makes a lot of sense. We never doubted that Apple will make this move this year. It makes total sense for them to broaden their product portfolio to win more customers. This may cannibalize their iPhone sales, but Apple has shown that they are not afraid of cannibalizing themselves in the past.

Seems like a waste of materials for most of the world, although it would be useful and affordable in third-world countries. If it does come out, it will be out around the time of the Palm Pre. If it can steal some of Palm’s thunder, it wouldn’t be a bad thing. I personally don’t care to see Apple going for the lower end market but if they sell, then I have no complaints. I’d prefer Apple get working on that Touch HD device or an iPhone Pro with updated hardware and longer battery life.

The terrific iPhone, IMHO, is best suited for a lady’s purse, not a guys suit or jeans backpocket.
Its size is the one reason I didn’t buy one.
