Yet another Comcast FAIL post

comcast_fail

We’ve all had bad experiences with Comcast but hopefully no one’s coax network looks like this one in a Hanover, MD neighborhood. According to the Baltimore Sun, Comcast techs ran cables in such a way that they are simply laying on sidewalks and over a couple of driveways. Then there is the cable junction box cluster *uck shown in the picture above. And it was installed like that for over a year.

Eventually the company properly installed the cables but only after a call from the Baltimore Sun. I totally understand the frustration as Comcast finally installed a few Cable Cards only after I wrote a post about the company’s incompetence. It’s sad that it requires an influential media outlet to get something done with Comcast.

  • “Comcast tech support, how may I help you?”

    “…………..”

“You say you traced your faulty cable connection back to a dead leaf?”

    “…………..”

“Sir that’s just silly, you can’t get cable from a leaf!”

    “..&#…*&@#$”

“Sir if you continue in that tone i’ll have to disconnect your call. Now have you taken your prescribed medication today?”

    “&%$#*@$%*#”

“Have a nice day sir” *click*

  • We have Comcast, but only because we have ZERO other option in our area for cable internet.

  • This must be a Maryland thing, because I live in Ellicott City, MD and we have open boxes all over the place and cables running across peoples driveways for over a year… thank god we have FIOS.

    • Hi, I also live in Ellicott City, but live in a new development all prewired for Comcast. But I am still going to switch to Verizon FIOS in August when my Comcast contract is up. I tried to negotiate a lower price from Comcast, but they wouldn’t budge. A significant number of my neighbors here in the community have also switched to FIOS; I have seen the picture quality and it is terrific. I had no idea theat Comcast had open boxes all over the place, and that your service was so bad. I personally have had good service from Comcast, but it is not enough to keep me from switching.

  • This isn’t typical of Comcast? I beg to differ.

We had a sprinkler system installed this summer. and during the installation a Comcast cable was cut. Miss Utility missed the marking the cable line coming through my yard to a neighbor’s house, but they marked an older cable that had been previously cut a few years ago.

Comcast sent someone out the next morning to install a new cable which was simply laid straight across my front lawn. Luckily it was long enough to drag out to the edge of the street, where it lay for 4 months despite repeated calls and letters. When they finally came out to bury the cable, they conveniently cut the cable to a neighbor on the other side of my house.

Needless to say, the team installing the Verizon FiOS cable got a good laugh at the Comcast cable laying in the street, and Verizon is getting the last laugh as my neighbors have been signing up for FiOS in droves. I am happy to report that I am a Verizon FiOS customer as well.

  • Oh, I think I can compete with this. Although there are no visuals. Yet.

  • Now I can appreciate all of the Comcast bashing, but let’s give every provider a chance. I have Charter Com as my only cable option. Up until last fall I was quite happy with my MOXI DVR. However, I felt the need to replace it when it took up smoking (a very bad habit). It was replaced with the new statndard DVR (too cheap to pay for HD). Since then, I’ve been randomly losing sound. Four times they have been out only to 1.) Blame the TV: IT’S PLUGGED INTO AN AUDIO SYSTEM!!!! 2.) Replace the wire from the road to the house: Nothing. 3.) Blame the TV again: the “Installer” actually had the nerve to tell me next time he has to come out for this he’s charging. 4.) Blame my Electrical System: My Father-in-Law is an electrician and we re-wired the whole thing. Anyway, Direct TV is looking pretty good.

  • Seriouslly, in a few years you will all be bashing fios just like you bash comcast. Maybe You guys should get off your fat ass’s and do something productive in you community instead of wasting our time on these forums.
