For those of you who have installed Windows 7 Beta, here are some tricks and tricks from lockergnome.com.
- In the case that something happens to your system, you can make yourself a system repair disc. Just search “system repair disc” in the start menu.
- You can get quicklaunch back by following these steps:
- right-click the taskbar and Toolbars and then select New Toolbar
- in the folder selection box that appears enter “%userprofile%\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Quick Launch” without the quotation marks of course.
- turn off “lock the taskbar” and right-click the divider. Make sure “show text” and “show title” are both disabled and that view is set to “small icons”
- you can then rearrange the toolbar the way you like it and then lock it again.
- Mail and a few other features are missing on 7. You can get them back by downloading Windows Live Essentials to get Live Photo Gallery, Mail, Messenger, Movie Maker, and other features from here.
- If you have a disk image such as an .iso that you want to burn, just double click it and a burning tool should appear.
- If you like using ctrl+alt+del but want only the task manager to pop up, try ctrl+shift+esc. This should also work for Vista also.

Nice list. I for one would like to know how to safely uninstall the windows 7 from your PC if you’re Dual booting with a XP or Vista partition.
the uninstall for dual booting systems is basically you have to reformat your whole HDD, its the way it works i was never able to get it to work otherwise…
Why on earth would anybody want the quick launch back when you can instead just pin the apps / icons to the task bar? The whole idea of the new taskbar is that you don’t NEED quicklaunch anymore. Duh..
windows 7 is a very good operating system.. where it supports all the games and softwares.. to shift from one window to another we can use WINDOWS+TAB where it will work for vista also..
Regarding CTRL+SHIFT+ESC, it’s a hotkey that also works on Windows XP and Windows 2000 to launch the task manager.
Here’s a great tip for XP stalwarts (me!) who want to enjoy Windows 7’s robustness while maintaining some UI familiarity:
You can disable Win7’s taskbar app stacking and icon-only appearance by right clicking on a blank space in the taskbar and hitting “properties.” Change the “Always combine, hide labels” dropdown on the taskbar tab to “never combine.”
This will make running tasks appear as they do in Vista and XP.

nice post thank u.
win+tab what a wonderful shortcut!!!!!!!!!!!!!
While i’m not sure about windows 7, the tip for shifting between screens is ALT+TAB; WIN opens up the programs panel. On a side note, MovieMaker is the best free video editing software that I have tried, and I update to my videos to youtube regularly.
