Photos of Acer’s upcoming 10-inch netbook, the Aspire One 103, have seeped their way through the cracks in the floorboards of the web for all to see. It looks similar to the 8.9-inch version except that the trackpad’s buttons have been moved from the sides to the bottom of the swiping surface and there are flashy new translucent teardrop-shaped logos adorning either hinge.
Specs are pretty standard fare: 1.6GHz Atom CPU, 1GB of RAM, 10.1-inch screen (1024×600 resolution), 160GB hard drive, Windows XP, SD reader, three USB ports, and webcam.
An optional 3G connection will be available on some models and the touchpad is multitouch – nice. Also, the RAM slot is accessible via a panel on the bottom of the machine so you don’t have to crack the thing open any more (like I did) to upgrade the memory.
According to TechRadar.com, the Aspire One 103 should hit the UK in four to six weeks so it’d likely show up here in the US around the same time, if not shortly afterward.

Where are the touch screen netbooks? I figured they would have started coming out by now =(
I don’t mean to be a jerk, but I still don’t understand how one would use a touchscreen on a laptop. One, wouldn’t your arms get a little tired holding your hands out to the screen? Two, won’t pressing your fingers onto the screen cause the laptop to tip forward – especially really light netbooks?
I think he meant netbook tablets like the eee PC t91 which swivels to use like a tablet
Touchscreens are helpful to people like me who experience pain and fatigue with repetitive mousing and scrolling. Scrolling is much easier and pointing on a touchscreen.
Had Aspire 1 till touchpad died, hated the keyboard & 600 high display. Windiz often did >600 high windows, making “cancel” & “OK” buttons hidden & useless. Would buy another without useless Windiz keys, CapsLk, PrtSc,Pause, ScrLk & Fn. Also make enter, backspace, tab & shift 1 key width. Bottom access to memory good, add HDD access.
Add port on lid to connect a touchscreen overlay.
Now, that’s one good looking netbook! Acer learned from their mistakes, placing the trackpad buttons under it and making the ram easily accessible!
Windows XP! Yess!
Any word on pricing yet?
No firm price yet, but if I had to bet I’d say $349 to $399. Acer’s pretty aggressive with its pricing.
this actually seems like it would be productive for a netbook.. i saw the new vaio netbook, but i think this would be a better buy in terms of functionality
F.I.
Sir touchscreens are degrading our society in the notebook region. Ever heard of a tablet PC? ya try one those out, there not to good… in fact they suck!
i have been using a hp mini because it is a 10 screen now (i upgraded from the acer netbook) i would love to go back to the acer but the new one seems to have less ports .the ability to connect to a monitor or tv is one of the better selling pionts to me.it would be great if they sold it with the 6 cell battery so it really is more useful for travel. cannot always find power outlets when travelling.
I will receive the test set soon. I will post more info later. hehe.
