The UPS man just dropped off the Gateway JM30, a compact media laptop with a fairly unique feature – a round touchpad. I’ve only ever seen this sort of touchpad on Toshibas and on a few laptops from Japan, so it’s a nice little tweak. The laptop itself is consistent with Gateways more upscale line with brushed metal surfaces and a nice glossy screen. It has HDMI out – big plus – and a 2-GHz processor and 3GB RAM. Sadly, there’s no Blu-Ray playback.
I’ll put this girl through her paces and post a review shortly.
Speaking of delivery men, my Fedex guy got to know me a little because he was here so often and then one day, he asked me how old I am. I answered without hesitation, but then he asked me if I liked working on things to make lots of money.
At that point, I pretty much sensed a scam, but didn’t want to be mean. I told him I don’t mind money, and he proceeded to say this: “Well, you look like an energetic young man that clearly has the people skills to do things, especially when there’s money in it for him. We need people just like you to help make our business grow.” He hands me his business card with dollar bill images and his info. He continues, “I’d like to sit down with you some time and tell you about a special offer where you can help companies transition online to help mom and pop shops transition online. The business did XX million last year in revenue and we project XX more million this year.”
I think they gave tips about being confident and getting a meeting or something and so he asked if specific days/times would work for me. I guess they didn’t teach how to sense if the customer has caught the BS.
Just so you guys know, it’s a pyramid scheme, you pay to become an “employee” and then instead of selling anything, you have to find people to sign up to join the business. I had 2 other people try to sell me on that crap the month prior to this, they were people who I had met a year or two ago at some random conference and never spoken to again.
I thought gateway was sinking. They must be redeeming themselves now though. I have an old gateway that is still kicking. look forward to the review, thinking of purchasing a windows laptop. F.I.
