I suspect that this is real, but doubt this is the G2, but rather an independent HTC effort.

For me, if it doesnt have a keyboard, as a serial texter I would have to give that one a miss. Can texters live with the Iphone, as I would have to imagine its a serious pain in the rear texting on a virtual keyboard, having to retype every other word

[...] Matt Burns wrote an interesting post today onHere’s a quick excerptIsn’t funny how everytime you get your hands a super-duper secret phone or random gadget, the one camera nearby is your crappy camera phone? Funny. Anywho, supposedly what you see above, and after the link, is HTC’s next Android-powered phone dubbed the G2. According to Giz, it’s a touchscreen phone that lacks a physical keyboard and will likely find its way into T-Mobile’s stable. Real or fake? Your call. [...]

Photo MUST have been taken with the G1 camera ;)

As I posted in http://www.googleandblog.com/dream-g2-android-phone/3636/ this should be brought out publicly at the GSMA Mobile World Congress in Barcelona Spain next month.

I say it's the real thing, but not a replacement for the G1. It could be to some, but Verizon has done this often. They had the LG En-V, then later came out with the En-V2 while the En-V was still available as well as the Voyager which many say is no different from the En-V outside of the full front touch screen.

Soo, scratch what I said. Apparently these aren't the only pictures of this device seen.

http://www.engadget.com/2009/01/12/t-mobile-getting-htc-rhodium-as-the-wing-ii-sapphire-as-the-g2/

However, I still have gripes.

Who is giving these designs the green light?? The G1 is nowhere near what anyone would call pretty. My feelings about the "chin" were expressed previously, but seriously, it makes typing super-awkward.

And now this one. Better, but still. It's got a weird upturn reminiscent of the chin that ruins the pocket-ergonomics (made up terminology FTW). Plus those skinny sharp looking buttons...I just think they can do much better...

I thinks false too,

Look at the way the white plastic is formed around the trackball, and the whole thing curves up on that side. Looks like a piece of white plastic slapped over a G1, with room for that stupid "chin"

As for the back, I dunno...It looks longer and narrower than the front view, I don't think it's the same device.

This can't be real... I agree with Marc, it's too soon for a G2 to be coming out on the market, and honestly, I haven't seen enough applications, or usages for the G1 to even constitute a G2 necessity. Until there is one released on Sprint, then I personally, will have a hard time caring.

I know there's been some rumors that it would be coming out soon, but jesus, how long has the G1 been on the market?

I can't see this being real as of now.
