The English Premier League (or Barclays Premier League, as it’s officially named) really hates violation of its intellectual property. That is to say, a lawyer gets its wings every time you watch a Premier League game online, either on one of those live streaming sites like Justin.tv or Ustream, or using one of those P2P applications like TVAnts (which I got running on my MacBook the other day using WINE). To that end, the Premier League is readying its legal team and is gunning for ISPs. Only ISPs, says the Premier League, are able to stop the massive violation of its intellectual property. To quote a great man, good luck, bro.
The suits over at the EPL have begun pestering the UK government with the hope of making Internet Service Providers responsible for policing their subscribers. The implication is that sending cease and desist letters is a punitive enough action. You [the EPL] send a letter to one ISP, the ISP rats out its subscriber, then the subscriber simply goes somewhere else. It’s cat and mouse, and the EPL is tired of it.
The EPL is afraid that people will cancel their Sky and Setanta subscriptions (or whatever channel you subscribe to to see City go down with a billion on the bank) because they can watch all the games, for free, on Ustream. (That’s how I watch games not on Fox Soccer Channel; I don’t have Setanta Sports, and the Carling Cup isn’t compelling enough to hand over an additional $15 a month.) If enough people cancel their subscriptions, Sky et al. can’t as easily bid billions of pounds for the broadcast rights. With no broadcast money rolling in, the EPL, all of a sudden, becomes a league with a only few wealthy foreign owners (namely Chelsea and Manchester City) and the rest living off their parachute payments. No money? Good luck convincing the likes of David Villa and Gioluca Buffon to trade the easygoing Continental lifestyle for rainy England.
In summation, the EPL is angry that you’re watching Everton draw level with Liverpool for free online. Enjoy it while you still can!

I pay £45/month to Sky for their sports package and another £12/month to Setanta. Even with all that, they only broadcast 3 or 4 out of the 10 matches on any given weekend. Heck, I get WAY better EPL coverage when I visit the States than I can here in the UK. It’s pitiful! If I got more for the money that I’m paying, then I wouldn’t have a need to use P2P streaming. And for the benefit of those non-UK readers, there is no amount of money you can pay to get all the matches (there’s nothing like the NFL Sunday Ticket type service you can get in the States). So, I actually have the best package available for the EPL in England and I only get 30-40% coverage – ridiculous.
hello wrvery i need to know the results
Wonder if the sheiks could just buy the whole league. Their Man City investment seems to have already gone south.
It certainly seems like a flop so far. And I’m all for City spending their money as they see fit. I’d like to see a different Top Four every once and a while. Right now the EPL is Man Utd+Chelsea+Liverpool+Arsenal and then everyone else. Boring.
I am amazed sometimes how stupid big-wigs can be sometimes, did they ever consider the possibilities of partnering with these new media sites, like ad sharing revenue, etc.. rather than paying lawyers millions to get rid of a potential new worldwide audience, maroons!!
my name is yoda liza from ethiopia. Wonder if the sheiks could just buy the whole league
i have large doodle

fuck the epl
mmmgghmmmff if boys want to see my doodle email me at kool_dude88@hotmail.com
I pay around £75.00 a month to sky and £13.00 a month to setanta, so in that case i think i deserve to be able to watch matches not on those channels, online.
