i465-sm

Looks like Motorola will be pairing a keyboard with push-to-talk in the i465, due sometime this year. The immediacy of text messaging is great, yes, overshadowed only by the immediacy of instantly speaking to someone using a nationwide walkie-talkie, so this handset ought to cover all the need-to-talk-ASAP bases.

The phone’s OS isn’t anything fancy but let’s assume Moto’s concentrating more on function than form. There’s not too much other information about the device other than it’ll have Bluetooth and a VGA camera. Pricing, availability, and carrier(s) aren’t yet known.

  • So.. I’ve never really got this whole PTT thing… How does one start a conversation for example? Do you just assume that the other party has the phone glued to their ear at all times, or is there a specific conversation initiation process?
It hasn’t really taken off in little old NZ, possibly due to a lack of understanding? Or maybe I’m just special! :)
    Any clues, anyone?

  • Also, at least on IDEN technology, you initiate a conversation by alerting someone. You can just press and start throwing up words if you wish, but what you normally do, is one press/tap to the PTT button and that will send an alert to the other party, that will see it, and upon pressing the PTT will go “Yo, what’s up?” or something hahaa

    • I HATE it when people use alert. just a quick chirp is enough to grab my attention, even in noisy situations.

I just sent motorola lenghty email regarding how horrible this trainwreck is. They have a the i930 thats a regular PTT-flip-phone, but has windows mobile. Then they building this beast, which has a full keyboard, but its still based on the antique iden interface.

I want a querty keyboard, and windows mobile interface. OR why cant they just take the moto Q with its greats interface, and bring it to IDEN. You have no idea how crippling my bb 7100i is without SMS or MMS.

  • YOOOO!!!! i completely agree with you. why take the time to have a fukll keyboard for these tiny fingered pplz and have the same crap interface? i mean look at how freekin bulky that i930 is. not cute. but living with the i730 for the past 4-5 years. texting is second nature wit me n i wouldnt prefer n e thing else but i would be willing to try another way of texting. i love my i seven thirty..hmmm maybe same interface aint bad …but ! how sturdy would the phone be before sending it in for repairs1?!?!
