Christian Susana of Germany came up with this concept of a motor home with a detachable front car for tooling around on day trips, going to restaurants, and whatnot. Susana is calling it “Colim” for Colors of Life in Motion.
Well, at least the idea’s there. We’ll have marketing come up with a better name like the Transformobot 6000 or RoadRipper 2K9 or TravelPuncher.
The detachable cockpit has a top speed of 90 mph and the entire shebang can sleep four. It’s apparently more fuel-efficient than a traditional motor home, too. Lest you think this is merely a concept, Susana is currently looking for a company to start building these things.

I remember reading about this somewhere else, and I can see a few problems with it.
The main problem being that the ‘home’ part sleeps 4, but the detachable ‘motor’ part only has space for two. (disclaimer: the numbers may be innacurate, but I’m 90% sure that’s what I read, and I’m too lazy to check).
I suppose it is ‘cool’ with its Enterprise saucer detaching functionality, but I don’t think it looks cool at all.
Well, if you look at the road portion it clearly has at least four seats in it. Unless, the driver is sitting 5ft behind the windshield.
Your correct on part of that reply, the driver does sit about 5ft from the windshield. You can see the red steering wheel about halfway between the tires. The seat backs are about even with the start of the rear wheel wells.
Two words:
Rodimus Prime
It seems like a fun concept but i bet backing it into position is a ultra pain in the rear attatchment
Maybe it has a homing device that guides it back … sort of like the Roomba vacuum to its home/charger!
8-)
The interior looks very spartan and stark … I suppose one could spiff it up with pillow and curtains.
I think it needs a boat (attached upside-down) for a roof to really rock the RV world. Myself, I’d like some fold able helicopter blades that attach to the car, you know–go to the Grand canyon–camp, boat, & aerial sightseeing tour!
Now thats what I’m talking about, let’s just make the whole thing ambhibious with a topdeck to fish from!
I’d rather have that than some old-fashioned A-class gas guzzler!
Hey, Its an excellent consept, something id defently want myself,my favourite part being how every thing is so compact . My only observation would be that the over all look is very futuristic, i love that myself but im not sure most people would. Its quite a risky design and might leave you catering to a niche market, When i think this
concept would be attractive to alot of people.
I think that the problem is that the “head ” must have a powerful engine and looks ….small
I like the concept even though it is not old. It is simply a more efficient version of a truck pulling a trailer. I dont particularly care for the looks either…way to space age and unrealistic appearance. Has a “sterile” feel in which no one would want to actually live.
moulded plastic is not really my thing!
Hey If i ever win the lottery i am getting 6 one for each continent, except antarctica obviously.
did you know that you would actually only ever need two?
One for North and South America + Australia. There is a ferry at the end of chile that goes to australia.
Then the other for Europe, Africa, and Asia
nice post
That thing is sweet. I really need to save up and get something like that. It sure beats the old school RVs that look like a big box.
If IKEA made an RV, this would be it.
While the living space doesn’t look comfortable, the real pain would be putting it together with the one tiny Allen wrench they give you…
this is an old invention. it’s called a fifth wheel…
theres no back seats in the front part…
I love it! For Australian conditions it would need to be raised a bit more for off road suitability but the design is so cool. I would buy it if the price was right.
love it. But class b motorhome is probably still better because you don’t have to go back to the camp site to get your camper….
Wowsa…
Where did the rear wheels on the tow vehicle go when it is hooked up to the rear portion? Now they are there, now they’re not!
Keep in mind before slamming the “looks”. THIS IS A CONCEPT MODEL!!!!!!!!!!!!! If it goes to production, it will look VERY different.
Very clever, glad there are still people thinking outside the box.
i think this is pretty cool, what would it get mileage wise i wonder. and yes, it is a new take on a fifth wheel and i like
That is one of the coolest little campers I have ever seen. Very futuristic!
I hope you post a follow up if they find someone to manufacture these. This thing looks pretty damn cool.
Oh my God – I want this. I want to sell these for you – This is so so cool.
super design !
Fantastic vehicle, would love to get my hands on one.
