US-FINANCE-ECONOMY-RETAILS

Despite our attempts to inform everyone that the Circuit City liquidation deals are scams, apparently some people are still spending their money at the dead retailer. In fact, there the liquidator overlords might start another round of markdowns starting today because the sales are going so well. The distribution centers are almost cleared out and it seems Circuit City’s days are coming to a close.

Scott Carpenter, executive who has been overseeing the liquidation,

We are very pleased with the reception that these clearance sales has received, and we anticipate that more and more people will come out to take advantage of the great bargains being offered, with the Super Bowl coming this Sunday, we expect many consumers to be purchasing HDTVs, especially in the 50″ and larger widescreen sizes.”

Apparently perception is everything and people are will to drop their cash on items that seem on sale, but really are not. It’s sad really. Eventually, there should be some good deal but so far we have yet to hear of a single one.

  • I Lucked out on the First Weekend. Got a display model Tivo Hd for $100. It had a HDMI Issue and Tivo replaced it under warrantee.

  • There are no good deals. People just get glazed over and giddy when someone says “liquidation electronics”. P.T. Barnum was right. There is a sucker born every minute.

  • I are not will drop my cash at CC whether there are good deal or not. Believe it!

  • Yeah, 15% off MSRP for TV’s is no great deal, even 20% off is still a rip. Considering you can get a better deal at Amazon.

  • I disagree with the tag line “Circuit City not all fail buckets and pain”.
    It is.

  • Yeah, it was a joke when we went in there. While walking in both my wife and I noticed that no one was walking out with anything which wasn’t a good sign. Went inside and I started looking for a wireless access point and they were 10% above the competitors across the street at Best Buy even with their “liquidation sale” going on. My wife was shopping for laptops and even their stock on that was a joke. We walked out just laughing and laughing and laughing… Then went over to Best Buy and bought the above items we were looking for. I’ve always thought of Circuit City as a high priced joke.

  • In reference to Sucker City’s MSRP liquidation, I just have one more thing to say – “A fool and is money are soon parted.”

  • same here, went in, laughed at the prices and the fact that people were actually in line buying anything and went home. I think I bought something on buy.com that night too haha. Circuit City what a joke, IF people weren’t losing their jobs I would say good riddance…

  • I was at the NYC Union Square store today, it was full of shoppers but there were no lines and I guess everybody like me were just browsing and saying goodbye. I felt sad.

  • The only thing CC and BB are good for nowadays are to actually view the product in person. Then go back to your home, log onto Amazon and buy it from there. No sales tax and usually free shipping.

CC and BB are show rooms. That’s it. The CC “deals” in this liquidation sale are no deal at all for anything other than cable wires and blank CD’s. Even their games CD’s are more than BB or Amazon.
