Just FYI – 2.2.1 is jailbroken but upgrading will totally bork your unlock.
UPDATE – The guys are saying don’t use this jailbreak. It’s not an official dev team release and, as we mentioned, it borks your unlock. A real jailbreak is forthcoming.
UPDATE #2 – The real deal iPhone dev team QuickPwn (Windows/Mac) and PwnageTool (Mac only) apps are now available. They have yet to SIM unlock the new baseband (02.30.03), so tread with caution and read directions especially close if you’re planning on liberating your handset.
The unlock works on the iPhone, the iPhone 3G, and the 1st gen Touch.
iPhone 3G users, do not update to firmware 2.2.1 if you want to keep your unlock because firmware 2.2.1 will update your baseband permanently. You will need to download custom firmware with an earlier baseband in order to use QuickPWN.
I accidentaly update my iphone 3g to new frimware and now my unlck is missed up. Dev. team when you will have an update to unlock the 2.2.1 and baseband 2.30.03?
so if we have the old iphone and not the 3g can we upgrade to 2.2.1 with no caution or does it affect the unlock?

I have an unlocked Iphone 3g with Cyndia. Can I upgrade my iphone to the 2.2.1 or even 3.0 when it comes out next week without my phone having any issues. I dont care if it un-unlocks it. I just dont want it to be messed up. I need to take it back to Apple my battery is getting weaker and weaker.

I just bought an 8gb 2g iphone. It was on 2.2.1 I ran quickpwn 2.5 and he correct fimware. Everything went well. However, the Phone is jailbroken now but for some reason did not UNLOCK!!! When I insert the TMobile Sim car, I’m getting: Different Sim Detected, I am getting the Tmobile Sign and signl on the top left.. I cannot make any calls, only emergency…what happened? I did it twice but still no luck Please help, I dont have a phone
