So how hot does your MacBook Pro get? Like, hot hot or just hot? (I have an old MacBook that’s not too bad about that kind of thing.) There’s a delightful message today on Penny-Arcade about how their MacBook Pro, when left to its own devices, becomes extraordinarily hot. Like, otherworldly hot.
All you have to do is Google “macbook pro overheat” to find thousands of people all wondering, “Why in the hell is this laptop so hot?” Is it because it’s made of aluminum? Why don’t the fans constantly run, without third-party assistance, once it reaches a certain temperature? Is this year’s FC Barcelona the best team that’s ever played? (Yes. Stats don’t lie.)
MacBook Pro and fertility don’t mix well, if you care about that sort of thing.

No, seriously, my macbook pro hurts me some times.
Eh? My 2.53ghz unibody runs as cool as ice. Only thing that heats it up is gaming via bootcamp, which is easily rectified with smcfancontrol.
Mine doesn’t get very warm at all.
Oh, that’s right. I’m not an isheep. I bought a better computer for less money. Less than 1/3 the money.
It’s fans work.
smcfancontrol is a requirement. the MBP ain’t ready for constant office use.
Have pre-unibody.
Hey Gryphyn – “it’s” means ‘it is’. Not so smart now, eh?
if you’ve got penryn (cough cough 2.53), then ya its gonna be cool. they;re talking about older labtops here.
chris – the MBP is ready for constant office use. typically it’ll be sitting on your desk and not on your lap in an office envi.
My MBP runs at 80 – 90 degrees celcius when processing even when elevated with a large pedestal fan blowing directly onto it. It is soo hot I had to buy an external (of course Apple) keyboard just to type.
It actually cooked itself the other day, requiring the main board, airport, sound card and something else to be replaced. Apple refuses to replace the unit (presumably until it cooks itself again). Really sux.
