What’s so hard about the DTV switch, my grandparents get it?

dtv_trans_main_270The family and I stopped by our grandparents house for a visit yesterday. It was a nice trip and we had a great conversation about the upcoming DTV switch. They seem to get it.

Their one downstairs antenna TV now has DTV box and the other two run off of satellite. They called and got their coupon months ago. The TV doesn’t pick up as many stations and that confused them but the TV is rarely used so they really don’t care.

So what’s so hard about this switch? These folks are in their late 70’s and aren’t technically inclined, but they followed the instructions given by a local TV news station and did what they were suppose too. I’m proud of ‘em.

  • I think the problem is that most of the commercials don’t explain that the switch is only for people that are using antennas. In fact none of the commercials I have seen tell people that it is for over the air only and the cable companies are taking advantage of this and confusing people even more by telling them they need to switch to a digital package.

  • I wish I knew. Pretty much everyone I know is running scared. Of course the cable tv around here is running these ads that are confusing, so it’s no wonder….

  • The hardest part about the switch is that it is a change… people can’t deal well with that a lot of the time.
