Thanko, one of Crunchgear’s favorite crapgadget makers, seems to be able to produce useful electronics, too. At least their new Media Player [JP] looks a lot more sensible than the USB boob warmer, the USB gloves or the USB lunch box warmer.
The USB 2.0 device went on sale today and supports Windows 2000/XP/Vista and Macs. It basically allows you to play media files like videos or pictures on TVs. The 3.5-inch SATA HDD player is compatible to AVI (DivX)/VOB/MPG/MP3 and JPEG files.
An HDD must be bought separately but the main unit costs $75. The device should be listed in Thanko’s English online store soon (the interface is in Japanese and English)

Hmm. sounds interesting, but I don’t see it yet on the Thanko english store.
Just out of curiousity, what other media players like this let you install your own HDs? Are there other options?
Still not seeing this anywhere , and its the only one I can find with optical digital audio out.
