The Calypso by designer Brandon Allen takes the concept of the futon, updates it to the year 2009, tweaks it a little bit, and then kicks it square in the nuts. The super-jointed loveseat concept quickly converts between workstation, regular sofa, coffee table, and weird waiting-room-type seating area.

Something like this looks as though it’d fit in really nicely in a small space. You could probably even get away with throwing one of those rollable mattresses on top of the coffee table configuration for the overnight houseguests that barely fit in your apartment.

It appears to be just a concept at the moment, but A) do you like it and B) how much would you pay for it?

  • So that’s what airport terminal furniture looks like when it’s in a showroom by itself… never would have noticed, thanks

  • a) Mostly as a concept. The fold out arm-tray is cool, but overall it is very unappealing.

    b) For this particular model? $0, though I’d price it at about $199 if they want to sell it.

    3) Any multi-purpose furniture is awesome, they’re like a domesticated form of Transformers… maybe from the Marthamus Prime Collection?

  • A little stiff for me but a definite attention getter. I guess if I was working, it would be justified. How much would I pay for it ? Does art really have a price ? lol

  • It doesn’t really look comfortable or big enough for my laptop.

It’s neat for sure but I can’t really see the purpose of having coffee table mode, couch mode, and waiting room mode especially. If you had a couch already and needed a coffee table that could turn in to a love seat that be cool and maybe useful but then you’d need another coffee table wouldn’t you?

  • pretty ingenious. i’d pay $100-$150 for it depending on size.

  • haters. i think the concept behind it is good and as for the design, i love it. i could see me putting something like this in my living room (that i don’t have yet but dream about).
