We knew the next-gen Kindle was coming, and spied the official pics early, but it is now official complete with a 20% faster operation and text to speech. The second version is a tad slimmer and overall more compact than its predecessor with a thickness of only .36-inches. Amazon tell us that the screen is better suited for reading too with a higher-quality OLED screen that now displays 16 shades of gray.
Battery life and storage have been improved with 25% longer life (2 weeks of reading) and 7 times the storage. The device will sync with the original Kindle and other mobile devices over a system dubbed Whisper Sync. (more on that coming) Pricing has been set, just like a leak said, at $359 when the K2 launches on February 24th. Pre-order now.

When will be able to buy an 8X11 model?
If that were available, I would buy it tomorrow – need to transfer the funds.
The display is an E-Ink, not an OLED…

that’s great technology..i am very supported for.maybe if the price can familiar, its can stop to cutting tree for nature..anyone agree with me ??
Um, is anyone really going to pony up that much skrilla for one of these? You could buy about somewhere between 10-20 books for that price depending on what format the are. I bet most people who buy this won’t read even 5 books on this before a new one comes out or they get bored of it and throw it in a drawer somewhere. Not really the best product to launch at this juncture.
Brad,
Actually, they have sold over 500,000 units since the Kindles launch in Nov 2007. “Against all odds.” Lol…people love these things, man. When I saw the 2007 announcement, I said “This thing wont last 6 months.” I visited Amazon.com this evening and saw the announcement for the Kindle 2…and I ordered one. Maybe you’ll come around one day too. :P
