wasabi

Why would Dell name a line of printers after a Japanese plant? They have nothing to do with each other in any way.

Anyway, the Wasabi PZ310 Bluetooth pocket printer is now available at an introductory price of $99 (regularly $149). The Wasabi pumps out 2×3 sticky-back color images in less than a minute and works with most Bluetooth-enabled mobile phones like the BlackBerry Curve, LG Trax and Moto RAZR V3.

This actually seems like a great idea except mobile phones take horrendous photos.

  • what are you talking about? the last few phones I’ve owned have taken very decent pictures, as long as the lighting was good. It’s not like you need super hi-res pics to look good on a 2″x3″ sticker.

Great idea. Could be the next Polaroid, especially considering you can’t actually get Polaroid anymore. I can see this being a big hit at parties and weddings and the like where the host puts this out for people to contribute their photos to a scrapbook or something.

  • I’d be VERY much interested to hear how much are the (undoubtely) propietary stickers and the ink cartdriges. And how much do these cost.
$100 (or even $150) is not bad AT ALL, but I think we’ve all fallen at least once for the $90 printer whose cartriges are $40 and last less than 2 months…
    Also, what about the battery?

  • Wasabi is named after the zesty sushi condiment — a spicy companion.

ZINK photo paper refills for the Dell Wasabi are available on dell.com for $11.99 for a 24-sheet pack, $19.99 for a 48-sheet pack and $29.99 for a 96-sheet pack.

  • mobile phones take horrendous photos” what are you using? My N95 takes awesome pics! This printer might be good for bus cards at 2×3.

  • Could have nothing to do with the photo quality it actually takes but the screen. My motorola used to take great pictures, but when you looked at them on the phone, it was horrible because of the screen…importing them and viewing them on a computer was great though.
