Whoa, Sirius XM could file for bankruptcy ‘within days’

sxmmm

This doesn’t look good. The Times is reporting that Sirius XM, home to Opie and Anthony, “has been working with advisers to prepare for a possible bankruptcy filing.” Of course, that’s different from OH MY GOD THEY’RE GOING BANKRUPT RIGHT NOW, but it’s not a good sign.

The satrad company has been working with some fancy bankruptcy lawyers, and it’s possible that a Chapter 11 filing could happen in the next few days.

The Times also notes a subplot: this could be a ploy to get EchoStar, which recently bought a boatload of the company’s debt, to make a formal bid for the company.

I imagine we’ll be hearing about this as the night progresses.

  • Most subscribers will have to turn to ‘Ted’s Bankruptcy Bailout Emporium’ to help with this one.

  • It’s probably because Howard is leaving and they can’t find a replacement for him.

  • Howard said if he renegotiates his contract it will be for more money….that’s a way to keep the company going.

I’m not a howard fan, but i understand the large draw he brings, however when the company is on the verge of going under and you could potentially lose that money, it would seem better to help them out now, so you can help yourself more later.

At the same time I am really bitter that in the midst of a failing economy they are raising prices and starting to charge for online listening. I may have to sacrifice my online listening just to be able to keep the service since I have it on 4 units.

    • Am I the only person that subscribes to Sirius to actually listen to music? I caught Howard Stern every once in a while during his terrestrial radio days, but that was when I only had FM in the car and there were maybe 4 stations I would actually listen to; now I can honestly say that with all the channels available on satellite I’ve never once tuned in.

O&A were handed 26 or roughly one third of Howard Sterns radio empire, and FAILED… The sucked at XM and FM… They have one station left and probably no more satellite feed…

Btw.. The greasy little aids patient that is the “A” part of O&A has been getting hair plugs.. He is fifty years old, and pays his ex-wife dearly… And he is the one with any talent.

    ahahahahah

    • Howard is in his 60’s, definitely wears a wig, also pays his ex-wife….

Personally, as an O&A fan, I think splitting time between FM and XM has hurt the show a lot. I subscribed to XM because of O&A and never missed a show….as soon as the majority of the show went to FM, it became watered down and weak. Now if I miss a show, it’s not a problem.

Ron and Fez are currently the best thing on radio.

  • It’s all because of the downturn in the economy and the overspending they both did on talent. Sirius spent half a billion on Stern and it didn’t do them a lick of good. Plus it is killing Stern’s career. Ever since he went to satellite, he is no longer relevant.
On another note, XM got O&A on the cheap compared to Stern(Hell of a bargain if you ask me)

  • O&A blow any radio show out there out of the water. if you think otherwise, you like s#itty radio…

  • Sirius’ puters are about to pute right on out of bidnis I see..:-(

  • bubba the cum sponge sucks.

all you faggots can touch opie and anthony.

suck a dick and die if you disagree

  • Yes, SIRI has a $1 Billion debt obligation that it owes on Feb 17. So it is very likely of the chapter 11. Time to short some shares!

  • I hope they don’t belly up. I really enjoy having satellite in my car. grrrr

Hopefully another company can bail them out.

I don’t care if misinformed people hate on Opie & Anthony. I’m still trying to figure out what’s entertaining about interviewing the same f’n midget every day (I guess referring to him by different ingenious names makes the bit). Also, in 2009 when you can find porn just about anywhere, why spend more than half your show focusing on naked girls in studio?

And the fact that anybody supports a Mancow-sounding hack like Bubba blows my mind. I’m pretty confident than none of the Stern zombies gave this douche an ounce of attention that Howard would crap on him and defiantly state, “I don’t want to work in an industry with a Bubba the Love Sponge.”

  • BUBBA ARMY BUBBA ARMY BUBBA ARMY BUBBA ARMY

  • Ron and Fez Noon-3. Save Black Earl.

  • You morons, Sirius/XM filing for Ch 11 will not cause the company to “tank”. It will give them a chance to restructure, which they need to do because of the billions of dollars they lost when the FCC and radio industry held up the merger of the two for over a year. Oh, and O&A suck, nothing but a couple of hacks, they will probably be the first cut made.

  • I find that most people who rip on OnA have never listened to the show, and simply repeat what Howard tells him, or what their fellow Stern fans post on their message boards. I listened to both for years, I picked OnA when they became available on satellite. I have since heard Howard on satellite, and man, he’s really lost his relevance. Without the battle with the FCC or GMs, P.D.s etc., he just has no fight in him. When he actually has a show, its all midgets and porn stars. Its actually kind of sad.

Not trying to hate on Howard, i just think he’s lost a lot of what made him successful. OnA still have that fight in them, and they have a great roster of guest comedians to compliment the show.

    My 2 cents…

Oh, and c’mon, Bubba just sucks.

  • Both Stern and OnA suck. Get a life and go find some real entertainment. With all of the channels available a brain dead twit could do better.

    • Thanks for the contribution. Who needs to get a life? The people who are commenting on an article that has interest to them, or the idiot who has zero interest in the article and has the time to comment anyway?

  • Well whatever you do – DO NOT sign up for their Lifetime Subscription without reading their fairly well hidden (and never mentioned during the sales process) terms and agreements. This is an out and out fraud on the Sirius consumers.

It appears that Lifetime does not mean YOUR Lifetime it means the lifetime of your existing receiver. That’s right – get a new car with the radio built in, upgrade to a newer device and you will quickly find out how they have resorted to misleading customers with their Lifetime promotion. So what happens if your device fails after the one year warranty is up? That’s right – you have lost your lifetime subscription.

PS – the terms and agreements also go on to say “no refunds” on the hefty $500 fee.

So beware: The promise of Lifetime Service isn’t Sirius!
