Never need quarters for the laundromat again!

wonderwashIf you’re looking for a greener solution for washing your clothes, or you want to be able to wash them in your home but don’t have a ton of space, there might be a solution out there after all. Enter the Wonder Wash a portable, inexpensive, and fairly green alternative to the coin-fed beasts at the corner laundromat.

It’s kind of neat, actually. A small, tank shaped plastic device that apparently uses hot or cold water, and is capable of washing small loads of laundry. It’s hand powered, so requires no electricity, and has a minimum of moving parts. Just the thing for someone living in a loft maybe — or a Luddite.

A word of caution however: my wife has been asking me for a new washing machine, and was not amused when I suggested this as an alternative. Hopefully I’ll be off the couch before Valentine’s Day.

  • I used to own a Wonder Wash when I lived in a bedsitter, about 13 years ago. I live in Australia and bought it from a camping shop, in case anyone was wondering where they might be purchased from. The handle broke within a few months, so I just turned the barrel by hand. I never bothered to claim on the warranty, so don’t know if I had an imitation model or not. It lasted me a couple of years until I got a washing machine. There are a couple of very small automatic washing machines available … I’ll post again if I can find some useful links/info.

Please buy your wife the washing machine of her choice — a happy wife means a happy life! *grin* Let us know what you end up buying.

  • It’s a interesting tool, but it’s to small to replace a large washing machine. But may be worth checking out.

  • Talk about a blast from the past. Back in the late 90’s my folks bought one of those because we couldn’t afford a regular washing machine and it worked just fine. We must have had it for a couple years before we moved and I can’t remember it ever breaking.
