The fate of Sony’s portable handheld is wavering at the moment with poor sales and lackluster titles, but there’s still hope for a revamped design this year that might pull it out of the dark. Here we have two fresh rumors with one having a seed of truth while the other is ‘out there’.
Gamestop came across a job posting on the SCEJ site for an “evaluator/assessor” for a “new game machine.” While most would scoff at that and pass it off as nothing, the listing reveals that the hardware is “part of the PlayStation or PSP series and their peripherals.” That could be construed as an accessory for the existing Sony platforms, too. Or could it be the PSP2, but let’s not jump the gun, fellas.
On the flipside, VG247 claims to have some insider info about a purported PSP-4000, which comes with a sliding screen. They go on to say that the new hardware that’s not the PSP2 will be announced at GDC (March) or E3 (June).
I guess we’ll have to wait and see. I’m still kicking around my PSP-3000. What about you?

The hardware is fine, fix the freakin’ software – decent browser, RSS, music player for a start then add an app store for real homebrew/commercial devs.

I bought my PSP when it first came out and haven’t really picked it up at all since then. I suppose if I was a big younger, had more time on my hands, and rode as a passenger when I traveled; I could possibly find a use for it.
However, when I fly I find my iPod completely suitable for the trip.
When I do game, I generally play the 360. To me unless I have achievements for trophy’s to show for my work it’s not worth it. Don’t get me wrong there’s a few games I definitely play because they’re fun and I’d like to know what is going to Happy, but there are none of those on the PSP.
I really think it has potential, come on PSP go!
@Ivan – of your list, only ONE game interests me. God of War, and I’ve played that. The PSP really doesn’t have enough to offer. The only other game I played was FFVII, and that was a great game. All other games just are meh. I really like the PSP, but I’ve never bought one because I don’t have enough reason to. This new model looks freakin sweet and I want to buy it, but again, I’ve played all two games that I’ve wanted to play so….
ihered that the peespee is comming uot in200000000000000 milloinon yereas from kow
assholes
There is yet another controversy with some sites claiming that the PSP-4000 will altogether be a different thing in the market than what is expected from it. It will not be the same in the lineage of PSP-3000
