Here’s how to disable the Tabs on Top feature in Safari 4. Open Terminal in OS X and type:
defaults write com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4TabBarIsOnTop -bool NO
To restore Tabs on Top type:
defaults delete com.apple.Safari DebugSafari4TabBarIsOnTop
[Thanks to Justin!]

Thanks so much for this hint. I couldn’t use the tabs on top when navigating with my Wacom graphics tablet. For some reason, tapping my tablet would always minimize the window to the Dock instead of switching to the tab. Very annoying
Were you double-clicking the tabs or something?
Esthetics aside, the tabs-on-top mucks with the integrity of the title bar/window frame — you’d think that would be a violation of Apple’s own user interface guidelines.
I know, right? Who OKed that move?
I just wish Apple would offer preference settings for arbitrary changes they make to the UI. Would it be so difficult to include a checkbox in preferences to either enable or disable this “feature”.
What about Safari on Windows?
Thanks! The tabs were less responsive when they were on the top!
sorry, but actually you were less responsive!
I love Tabs on Top. Want them back.
A few from the Stone Age don’t like them :(
Can anyone tell me a way to get them back.
Oh I so agree . .. get used to it and they are so much nicer. How to change back??
Yes, the tabs on top save lots of space on a laptop screen. Want them back too!
well yeah, i want them back!
i mean, i can no longer merge entire windows, or windows that you open and have no address bar, now only tabs can be merges with other windows.
the tabs on top had a little edge, even if it was just one, that you could drag around anywhere.
something i hate abt macs is how the desktop gets so cluttered and that was a great solution, i loved, i got so used to the beta. i even kept it while i was suffering with the messnger bug.
i want the tabs on top back, why wasnt it an option in preferences, having them on top or not!
