i use this sit a lot as i own most paradox games and i live in the uk i get very fast speeds from the site(3-3.5mb/s) and i found the site easy to use

Wow, found gamersgate looking for a couple of obsure titles and since they featured downloadable content, I thought great.

Well, was I disappointed once I started trying to use the site. Poorly laid out pages, non-functional links, errors when trying to select titles for purchase and slowwwwwwwwwww loading time for the pages tell me this isn’t a site I wish to use.

Really too bad because I prefer to purchase and d/l content rather than deal with packaging, etc.

Maybe it was just me, but I would advise anyone against using gamersgate, just not a very polished business.

I also complain about their slow as hell download speeds, I have been downloading Virtua Tennis 3 for the last few hours and its not even downloaded 1GB of data! The good news is I get to download games such as Virtua Tennis 3 and Billy Hatcher And The Giant Egg, previously unreleased in America for purchase or download.

I wonder if people are quite open to downloading games as opposed to having the physical cd’s at their possession. But then again, it would be great to compete with game pirates who would give it to users for free.

The pricing issue is fairly obvious, the Activision, Electronic Arts, etc. is structured around retail units like Gamestop. It's worth mentioning Gamestop (GME) is one of if not the only retail still expanding aggressively during this recession; so the business model isn't dead just yet. Part of the issue with newcomers to the market is credibility, security, payment, etc. I check this* digital security site when I need to double check something.

It’s on the content providers to provide lower ends for game prices… I think they’re getting there but they don’t want to cannibalize too much just yet.

I think the biggest issue is actually pricing. The digital distribution platform has so much potential to drastically drop the prices of games, yet Steam seem to keep a policy of maximising the margins despite the much lower costs of selling a game online rather than covering costs of packing/shipping/retail outlets etc etc etc.

It would be great to see some more serious competitors to Steam, and I think one that succeeds in positioning itself as a cheap way to get games without having to go to the store should do quite well. I also don’t think the majority of gamers would care much about having to wait a few extra hours to DL a game so long as it’s significantly cheaper.
